Miraculous Corp and See-Saw Films, both part of Mediawan, will develop and co-produce the first live-action television adaptation of the hit animated franchise. Mediawan Rights will handle international distribution.
Miraculous Corp and See-Saw Films, the production company behind hits such as Slow Horses and Heartstopper, have announced a partnership to develop and co-produce a live-action series based on Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir, the successful animated franchise created by Thomas Astruc, Jeremy Zag and Nathanaël Bronn.
The adaptation will be written by Emme Hoy, writer and co-executive producer of the second season of Sweetpea, who will also serve as executive producer on the new project.
Set in Paris, the series will follow the adventures of Marinette and Adrien, aiming to expand the franchise’s appeal to an older audience while remaining faithful to fans of the original production. The project is envisioned as a multi-season series.
The executive production team will also include Maria Nicholson, Iain Canning, Emile Sherman, Simon Gillis and Ben Irving from See-Saw Films, while Nicky Earnshaw will serve as co-producer.
Elisabeth d’Arvieu, Chief Content Officer of Mediawan Group and CEO of Mediawan Pictures, highlighted that the collaboration reflects the studio’s ability to bring together creative talent and production expertise around internationally successful franchises.
Meanwhile, Maria Nicholson, executive producer at See-Saw Films, noted that the adaptation will offer an opportunity to explore the emotional depth of the main characters, combining romance with large-scale superhero storytelling.
Heath Kenny, Chief Content Officer of Miraculous Corp, emphasized that this new chapter will bring Marinette and Adrien’s adventures into live action for the first time, with a series designed to appeal both to fans who grew up with the franchise and to new audiences.
Originally launched in 2015, Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir has become one of the leading international children’s animation franchises. Distributed in more than 150 countries by Mediawan Kids & Family, the series is available through broadcasters and platforms including Disney Channel, Disney+, Netflix, Globo and TF1.
Currently in its sixth season, the animated series has expanded into films, video games, consumer products and live experiences.
The new live-action adaptation represents another step in the international expansion of the franchise, with Mediawan Rights handling worldwide sales of the series.
