The incorporation of the Brazilian entities strengthens Brazil’s presence within the Ibero-American Film Commissions Network and expands opportunities for cooperation and co-production across the region.

Iberofic (Ibero-American Film Commissions Network) announced the incorporation of RioFilme and Rio Film Commission as new members, as well as the appointment of Leonardo Edde, president of RioFilme, to its Board of Directors.

The announcement was made in Madrid during Iberseries & Platino Industria, where Iberofic is participating for the third time and has its own space at Plaza Matadero for the first time.

The space serves as a meeting point connecting producers and industry professionals with Ibero-American territories, focusing on incentives, locations and production opportunities.

Iberofic’s presence in Madrid is supported by Spain Film Commission, along with strategic partners PAN Contenidos, RioFilme, Rio Film Commission, Cultura Prefeitura Rio, Brazilian Content and FID Aval.

Brazil strengthens its presence within Iberofic

The addition of RioFilme and Rio Film Commission expands Brazil’s representation within Iberofic and brings Rio de Janeiro, one of Latin America’s leading audiovisual production hubs, into the network of territories represented by the organization.

Edde’s appointment to the Board of Directors also strengthens Iberofic’s ties with the Brazilian market and dialogue between Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking audiovisual ecosystems.

“Brazil is an essential player when it comes to thinking about the Ibero-American audiovisual industry as an integrated region. The addition of RioFilme and Rio Film Commission not only brings one of Latin America’s cities with the strongest production tradition and capacity into the network, but also allows us to strengthen the bridge with the Brazilian market and advance concrete opportunities for co-production, investment and the circulation of projects between Brazil and the rest of Ibero-America,” said Carolina Cordero, founder and chair of Iberofic’s Board of Directors.

Edde highlighted the potential of cooperation between territories to drive audiovisual production.

“Rio de Janeiro understands audiovisual as an industry that creates jobs, strengthens cultural identity and promotes territorial development. Joining Iberofic expands this strategy: we want to translate cooperation between cities into co-productions, filming attraction and new markets for our productions,” he said.

Spain as a bridge between Europe and Ibero-America

Iberofic’s presence at Iberseries & Platino Industria also aims to reinforce Spain’s role as a connection point between European and Latin American markets.

For the organization, Spain’s industrial scale and production ecosystem make the country a strategic territory for developing partnerships, attracting international projects and expanding the circulation of talent, content and investment.

“Spain occupies a strategic position on the international audiovisual map, particularly as a link between Europe and Ibero-America. For Iberofic, being in Madrid means not only supporting the growth of our industry, but also opening new conversations with producers, investors and international partners,” Cordero said.

Juan Manuel Guimeráns, president of Spain Film Commission, also highlighted Iberofic’s presence in Madrid and Edde’s appointment to its governing body.

“These types of meetings strengthen a network built on collaboration and shared knowledge between territories. We are also pleased that this edition coincides with the appointment of Leonardo Edde to the Board of Directors, bringing a new perspective and strengthening Iberofic’s presence in Brazil,” he said.

As part of Iberseries & Platino Industria, Iberofic will also hold an in-person meeting with the film commissions attending the event.

The addition of RioFilme and Rio Film Commission, together with Iberofic’s participation in Madrid, is part of the network’s expansion strategy, focused on strengthening regional cooperation, promoting new co-productions and consolidating the institutional development of Ibero-American film commissions.
