The first episode will air on September 10 on Las Estrellas, while all five episodes will be available on ViX starting September 11.
ViX will premiere Chávez vs. Chávez on September 11, a new original documentary series produced by N+ Docs and centered on the life and career of legendary Mexican boxer Julio César Chávez.
Across five episodes, the production revisits, in Chávez’s own words, the defining moments of his career, from his early days and rise to the top of the boxing world to the victories that turned him into one of Mexico’s most prominent sports icons.
The series also looks beyond the ring, addressing the decisions, excesses and personal battles that challenged the athlete and ultimately became part of his story.
Directed by Diego Enrique Osorno, Chávez vs. Chávez is built around four intimate conversations with Julio César Chávez, who looks back on his life without filters and reflects on the price of fame, the pressure of becoming an icon and the consequences of the decisions he made throughout his career.
The production also takes a location-based approach to reconstructing the boxer’s story. Chávez visits places connected to different stages of his life, including Culiacán and Tijuana, where he began his career, as well as the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and Mexico City’s Estadio Azteca, venues associated with some of the most important moments of his career.
The journey also includes locations connected to more personal chapters of his life, such as a rehabilitation center in Tijuana and the Centro Ceremonial Otomí, where the former champion reflects on the path he has taken.
Beyond the belts and nights of glory, the series focuses on the most complex fight of the athlete’s life: the one against himself. From this perspective, the production seeks to reveal the human dimension behind one of Mexican sports’ most recognizable figures, exploring themes of vulnerability, redemption and the search for truth.
The first episode will air on September 10 on Las Estrellas, while all five episodes will be available on ViX starting September 11.
