The Turkish distributor is present at the event in Croatia with a selection of titles led by their classic and successful dramas, as well as movies, vertical series, and more.
Produced by Luis Cabrera, from Croatia
Armed with a catalog of new Turkish dramas, which are enjoying strong ratings in Turkey, Inter Medya has arriven at NEM Dubrovnik to continue expanding its presence in the CEE region.
And far from boring, the distributor is presenting a varied catalog which, in addition to its classic series, is complemented by other types of productions, such as movies and vertical productions.
In the following interview with ttvnews from Croatia, Hasret Özcan (HO), President of Inter Medya; and Sinem Alışkan (SA), Senior Sales and Communication Manager, share details about this coveted catalog for the region.
How do you keep the success going in the CEE region?
SA: I think it’s more about the success of the Turkish content everywhere. All around the world we’re very well known and our production quality is excellent. So everyone is really interested it the quality as well. Besides the subject of the story, it’s always about the quality, what they want to see. I think they trust us. It also has to do with the friendships that we’ve built with our clients. That they trust us and they know that what we have works.
HO: We have a diverse catalog. We have our series, which is still one of our main points. But then we also have the movies, we have the new generation series, we have documentaries. We continue to build. We are also working on vertical content now, keeping up with the trends.
How has this market that is so mature for Turkish content evolved in that sense? Which other types of productions, such as movies, are in demand?
HO: The movies might not be doing as well as the series. Because they’re only one or two hours ago. But they’re still out there, it’s building. There’s still a request for it. And we’re still adding to it every day. So movies are becoming a larger part of licensing as we grow.
We try to diversify. So we’re doing co-productions, for example. We’re getting co-investments from partners, especially in Latin America. But not just in Latin America. Other parts of the world as well. So we try to keep the business going in the sense that when we see something go unstable, we try to stabilize that with something else. So that’s what I would say is the success of Inter Medya.
SA: We’ve seen, for example, how the micro dramas are working. Because they started to get our attention on Instagram as well. So we said, OK, there’s something happening here. Let’s see it. And then we started to produce them as well. We said, OK, let’s follow the trend, let’s see what we can do. How we can put ourselves in that direction. And we are working on that now.
You’re very fast to adapt to new tendencies. You did so with your shorter series, with movies, and now vertical. What are you offering in terms of new titles in this regard?
SA: We are offering one of our own productions, Boardroom to Bedroom. And we are also representing most of Gain’s titles. We have around like 20 to 30 of them. So because when people are licensing these things, they need more volume than just one title. It’s a new trend. So everyone is trying to learn. Everyone has their own strategy. They are trying to decide how to put it on their countries, on their channels or their platforms, what will be the strategy for them. So while they are doing that, we’re trying to be as helpful as we can to help them to find out what will be their best strategy. And we are learning with them.
Are you also selling the formats?
SA: Yes.
And how has the premium drama side of the business been growing?
SA: Eshref Ruya has been a really successful title, along with Halef, because they are our most recent titles that are on air. Eshref Ruya will have its finale this week on Wednesday. And Halef is going to be going on for the second season. Both of their ratings are really good, we’re really happy. And there’s a huge interest for both titles. So we’re also happy about that.
We have recently licensed Halef to Albania. They’re going to go on air next week. And it’s the same with Croatia. Croatia is going to go on air on the 15th of this month. So we’ll see the success. I know it’s doing really well in Italy.
Most of the time, they’re really successful. Most of the Turkish titles are always successful. That’s the reason why people keep choosing the Turkish content.
Are you showcasing anything else? Upcoming titles or something else?
SA: We’re definitely going to have things for Mipcom.
