The company unveiled No es un Mito: La Llorona at LA Screenings, a premium supernatural horror series in vertical format produced alongside VIP 2000 TV.

During its presentation for Latin American buyers at LA Screenings, Sony Pictures Television (SPT) announced the launch of No es un Mito: La Llorona, the company’s first premium micro drama for Latin America. Co-produced with VIP 2000 TV, the Spanish-language supernatural horror series will consist of 60 episodes of approximately one minute each, presented in a vertical format optimized for mobile viewing.

The series reimagines the legendary figure of La Llorona, one of Latin America’s most iconic myths, through a story that combines romantic tragedy and a generational curse unfolding across dual timelines, where the sins of the past haunt the present.

The story follows Javier Alonso Vergara, who, after surviving a terrifying supernatural attack, discovers he is descended from the man responsible for destroying La Llorona’s life generations ago. Haunted by the spirit and marked by her curse, Javier joins forces with Verónica, a fearless paranormal investigator, to uncover the truth behind the deaths of María’s children before he becomes the next victim.

Blending emotional melodrama, mystery and supernatural horror, the production combines cinematic storytelling with an immersive format designed for mobile-first audiences.

“We are excited to continue expanding our storytelling formats with No es un Mito: La Llorona, our first premium micro drama for Latin America,” said Selina Nederhand, SVP & Co-Head, Networks at SPT. “This project reflects our commitment to developing compelling local stories designed for today’s digital-first audiences and reaching viewers where they are.”

For her part, Roxana Rotundo, CEO of VIP 2000 TV, highlighted the genre’s potential: “For VIP 2000 TV, the fast-growing micro drama market represents an opportunity to develop distinctive niche storytelling with a strong global identity. Latin American horror urban legends represent a rich universe of stories that already fascinate audiences around the world.”

The cast is led by Emma Mizhari as María and the haunting figure of La Llorona, alongside Daniel Medina in the dual role of Javier and Alonso. The production also stars Laura Rosguer as Verónica and renowned Venezuelan actress Verónica Schneider as Doña Beatriz.

No es un Mito: La Llorona is intended to be the first title under the No es un Mito banner, part of SPT Latin America’s broader strategy to explore new formats, including premium micro dramas, through culturally resonant stories inspired by the region’s most iconic urban legends.
