The context of this visit is further strengthened by the recent signing of the first Audiovisual Investment Certificate (CIA) for a co-production between Ecuavisa Studios and the U.S.-based company 360Powwow.
International producers of the hit adventure reality series Survivor are currently in Ecuador conducting a natural locations scouting tour, as part of a visit organized by Ecuavisa Studios, as host and local production partner. The initiative marks a new step in the country’s consolidation as an emerging audiovisual production hub in Latin America.
The delegation is led by Ángeles Villamarín, Executive Producer at Cuarzo Producciones, a company affiliated with the Banijay group. The tour is taking place mainly in the province of Esmeraldas, where natural settings with high cinematic potential are being evaluated thanks to their geographic diversity and logistical conditions.
According to Ana Cecilia Alvarado, CEO of Ecuavisa Studios, the interest from international franchises is the result of sustained efforts to position Ecuador within the global industry. She emphasized that Ecuador now offers a combination of unique landscapes, skilled local technical talent, and a new incentives framework that makes the country competitive for large-scale productions.
The context of this visit is further reinforced by the recent signing of the first Audiovisual Investment Certificate (CIA) for a co-production between Ecuavisa Studios and the U.S. company 360Powwow. This mechanism allows producers to recover up to 37% of their investment made in the country, becoming a key incentive to attract foreign capital and international projects.
Productions such as Survivor serve as a global showcase for the destinations where they are filmed, integrating landscapes and ecosystems into content consumed by millions of viewers worldwide. The impact is reflected in job creation, the hiring of local suppliers, the stimulation of services, and large-scale international tourism promotion.
The producers’ visit also included a formal meeting at the Office of the President, where the National Government reaffirmed its support for the audiovisual sector as an economic driver and a tool for international projection.
Banijay’s interest adds to a series of strategic visits promoted by Ecuavisa Studios in recent years. These have included executives such as Darío Turovelzky, CEO of Telefe; Ricardo Coeto, co-founder of BTF Media; and Leonardo Zimbrón, SVP of International Co-Productions at 3Pas Studios.
Cuarzo Producciones, founded in 2000 and integrated into Banijay Iberia, is responsible for internationally successful formats such as Survivor and Temptation Island, and is led by Pilar Blasco, one of the most influential television executives in Spain.
