This milestone marks the first agreement of its kind between production companies from South Korea and Spain, opening a new chapter of collaboration between both countries’ audiovisual industries.

poke, a leading South Korean studio, and Pokeepsie Films (Banijay Iberia), one of Spain’s most renowned production companies led by director Álex de la Iglesia and producer Carolina Bang, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the joint development of films and TV series.

The signing took place at Pokeepsie Films’ headquarters in Madrid, marking a milestone as the first-ever collaboration agreement between production companies from South Korea and Spain, and opening a new chapter of cooperation between both countries’ audiovisual industries.

EO Contents Group is a dynamic studio active in both film and television. Among its recent hits is Night Has Come, which ranked No. 1 in the TV series category on Netflix Korea in 2023. The company is gearing up for a busy 2025 with a lineup that includes the dramas Love Scout and Head over Heels, as well as the feature films The Noisy Mansion and Ghost Game.

Pokeepsie Films, led by acclaimed filmmaker Álex de la Iglesia, has built an internationally recognized body of work that includes Perfect Strangers, The Bar, Veneciafrenia, and the HBO series 30 Coins. De la Iglesia, a Silver Lion and Goya Award winner, is regarded as a master of genre filmmaking and a key figure in Spanish cinema. In 2024, the company continued to strengthen its reputation in the mystery and thriller space with the Netflix original series 1992.

De la Iglesia is also a celebrated figure in Korea, where he held a masterclass at the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFAN) in 2017 titled Álex de la Iglesia: The Master of Fantastic Cinema.

The partnership between EO Contents Group and Pokeepsie Films aims to generate strong synergies in the global content market by combining their creative and production strengths. Both South Korea and Spain have established themselves as cultural powerhouses in Asia and Europe, and this agreement represents a shared commitment to expanding their global presence through high-quality, internationally appealing productions.

The MOU includes plans to review existing IPs, develop new joint projects, and co-produce TV series and feature films.

Speaking about the collaboration, Álex de la Iglesia said: “I have great admiration for Korea’s storytelling and production capabilities, which consistently produce works loved around the world. I was truly impressed by EO Contents Group’s projects and believe this partnership will become a new model of cooperation between Spain and Korea.”

Oh Eun-young (Ellie Oh), CEO of EO Contents Group, added: “This partnership between EO Contents Group and Pokeepsie Films is highly symbolic as the first of its kind between leading production companies from our two nations. It represents an opportunity to strengthen our competitiveness in the global media market. We aim to create a flagship cross-border production that will become a major success not only in Korea and Spain but across the world.”
