The drama, premiering on October 24 on Now Channel (Turkey), combines classic Turkish melodrama with a powerful and universal female-driven story.

Calinos Entertainment unveiled at Mipcom one of its biggest highlights of the year: Lies After Lies, a Turkish adaptation of the successful Korean format Lie After Lie, currently produced by Medyapim. The series will premiere on October 24 on Now Channel, Turkey, marking another step in the distributor’s strategy to diversify its catalog with titles that hold strong international potential.

In conversation with ttvnews, Onur Sozener, Head of Sales at Calinos Entertainment, explained that this new production blends the elements that have made Turkish dramas so popular — emotional intensity, dramatic twists, and strong female characters — with an original story from Asia.

“The original format is Korean, and it’s now being adapted in Turkey with high production values. Lies After Lies tells the story of a woman wrongfully convicted of a crime she didn’t commit. While in prison, she discovers she’s pregnant, but her child is taken away from her. Years later, she sets out to find her daughter, a journey that will lead her to face both truth and love in unexpected ways,” Sozener explained.

The executive emphasized that this is a female-oriented drama, with a narrative focused on the resilience and strength of its protagonist — a formula that resonates deeply with global audiences. “It’s a story with great potential in Latin America, Europe, and Central and Eastern Europe, where emotionally charged, female-centered stories are very well received,” he said.

According to Sozener, Lies After Lies represents the natural evolution of Turkish content toward new themes and global formats. “These kinds of titles — inspired by Asian formats but produced with a Turkish touch — can connect with audiences all around the world. It’s a universal story about love, motherhood, and truth,” he concluded.

Global Catalog Highlights

Among Calinos’ flagship titles, Farah continues to be a global phenomenon. “It has been sold to more than 85 countries and continues to expand. Following its success in Italy, we’re now focusing on the Latin American market, where there is strong interest,” said Sozener.

Chasing the Sun, another key title showcased by the distributor at Mipcom, is a daily drama consisting of 75 one-hour episodes, produced by Mednova and aired on Kanal D in 2024. “It’s a series with strong international potential, featuring all the classic elements of Turkish melodrama that perform so well in global markets,” Sozener highlighted.

Expanding Beyond Turkish Productions

Beyond its local content, Calinos is also promoting titles from other countries. “We have Romanian, Canadian, and Serbian productions. For example, Alert Squad and Indefensible from Canadian producer Pixcom. Alert Squad has already been sold to Japan with great results,” he commented.

The executive added that Romanian dramas, although less well-known, share with Turkish series a similar emotional connection and family-driven storytelling, which could help them reach new audiences in markets such as Latin America.

“Romanian dramas have great potential to become a phenomenon in LatAm. Just as it happened with Turkish content years ago,” Sozener said.

Among the Romanian productions, Anna has become one of the most successful. “It’s a very well-known story in Romania about a young woman searching for her biological mother, with production quality comparable to Turkish series,” he added.
