Armed with a catalog of Turkish dramas with global potential, Mistco was present once again at another edition of Mipcom in Cannes, to showcase its catalog of Turkish titles for the international market.
Topping the list is Melek: A Mother’s Struggle, a drama that has already conquered several territories in Latin America and other key markets, and continues to be a major draw for buyers at the event.
“We are very happy because Melek‘s success continues in Latin America,” María Espino, Mistco’s Sales Director, began in a conversation with ttvnews. “The second season will premiere soon in Puerto Rico. It already premiered in US Hispanic. And we are very happy because it continues to grow in every territory it has been in and conquers.”
“That’s how it has been growing. Clients are seeing that it has worked on every screen and are looking for that type of telenovela. I think they miss the nostalgia of Turkish telenovelas,” explained the executive.
Starring Nehir Erdogan and Kutsi, the series tells the moving story of Melek, a resilient mother who fights to protect her children and rebuild her life amidst a family tied to traditions. Since its premiere, the drama has aired in multiple territories, garnering praise for its universal themes, its emotional depth, and the strength of its performances.
Another major success in Mistco’s catalog is Bahar, its first original production, which continues to tour countries in the region.
“We’re also happy with Bahar; it’s our first in-house production. We’re happy that it continues to be shown on screens. It’s now in Paraguay, and we hope it continues to knock on doors so we can see it in more and more countries. It’s done incredibly well not only in Latin America, but also in the rest of the world,” the executive emphasized.
Bahar follows the story of a woman who, after experiencing profound loss and personal hardship, rediscovers herself and fights to build a new life with her love, Demir.
Present at Mipcom, Espino explained that one of the most notable trends among buyers is Turkish classics and series that have already had a run on screens, which can be revived with a new lease on life.
“We were a little surprised by the new trends in Latin American countries and the rest of the world, where they are looking for reruns,” she explained. “I’m sure it could be a cost issue, but they also mention that they’re looking for content that has a past existence, like Melek or other library titles, where Turkish writers previously handled certain scripts, and they’re looking to revive them a bit with reruns. That’s what they’ve been asking for in this market, and it’s surprised us,” she concluded.
