A DGA member since 2001, Nolan has served on the National Board and the Western Directors Council since 2015.
The Directors Guild of America (DGA) announced that filmmaker Christopher Nolan has been elected President during its Biennial National Convention, where 167 delegates representing more than 19,500 members also selected a new slate of officers and members of the National Board of Directors.
“To be elected President of the Directors Guild of America is one of the greatest honors of my career,” Nolan said following his election. “Our industry is undergoing tremendous change, and I am grateful to the Guild’s membership for entrusting me with this responsibility. I also want to thank President Glatter for her leadership over the past four years. I look forward to working with her and with the newly elected Board to secure key creative and economic protections for our members.”
Guild Leadership and Film Legacy
A DGA member since 2001, Nolan has served on the National Board and the Western Directors Council since 2015. He currently chairs both the Guild’s Theatrical Creative Rights Committee and its Artificial Intelligence Committee.
Widely regarded as one of the most influential directors of his generation, Nolan won the 2024 DGA Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Theatrical Feature Film for Oppenheimer. He was also nominated for Dunkirk (2017), Inception (2010), The Dark Knight (2008), and Memento (2001). Known for his technical mastery, his commitment to practical filmmaking, nonlinear storytelling, and his advocacy for the theatrical experience, Nolan consistently achieves both critical acclaim and commercial success. His films have grossed billions of dollars worldwide.
