Certainly one of the big stars of this year’s LA Screenings, Globo made its presence felt at the event in Los Angeles, where it made two major announcements over the two days.
Yesterday, the Brazilian giant announced a new co-production partnership with Telemundo to develop and co-produce premium scripted content. The collaboration builds on the long-standing relationship between the two companies and reinforces their mutual commitment to expanding the reach of their narratives in the United States, Brazil, and global content markets.
“We’ve closed a new agreement with Telemundo, one of several co-production deals we’ve signed with them,” Pablo Ghiglione, Head of International Sales at Globo, began in a conversation with ttvnews.
“This time, the idea is to make two series,” he explained. “It’s an initial agreement where, from now on, the creative teams from both companies will sit down to discuss the production and the story we’re going to develop. And from there, we’ll determine whether it will be produced in the US, Brazil, or elsewhere. And we’ll look for ways to find productions that have that international DNA that’s interesting for both companies.”
And today, Globo announced the film adaptation of Leila Slimani’s novel Dans le Jardin de l’Ogre, which will be produced by Conspiração in co-production with Globoplay and the Star Original Productions label, marking the second co-production between Globo and Disney.
“Today we also announced the second film under the co-production agreement we have with Disney,” the executive emphasized. “The first, In the Line of Fog, is already recorded and is currently in post-production. And the second is an adaptation of this French book called In the Ogre’s Garden. It will be produced by Conspiração, one of the largest Brazilian production companies. We are very happy with the announcement and to be able to continue our partnership with Disney.”
Critically acclaimed, In the Ogre’s Garden is the debut novel by Slimani, also the author of Sweet Song, which won the prestigious Prix Goncourt in 2016 and has been translated into nearly thirty languages.
