TTVNews celebrates its first 20 years, inviting friends and industry colleagues to share their personal experiences over the past two decades. Silvana D’Angelo, CEO of Glowstar Media, answers, “Where were you 20 years ago?”
This 2024 marks the 20th anniversary of TTVNews, a big reason to celebrate for the group, which is consolidating itself as one of the go-to media platforms in the audiovisual industry in Latin America.
And to mark the occasion, we’ve invited friends and colleagues to share their experiences, challenges, and lessons learned over the last 20 years in this industry.
This time, Silvana D’Angelo, CEO of Glowstar Media, answers, “Where were you 20 years ago?”
Where were you 20 years ago?
I remember very well the beginnings of TTVnews, Sebastán (Lateulade) coming to the office at Telefe Internacional. If I remember correctly, we were one of the first companies to decide to bet on the media outlet that you were launching. We already saw a lot of desire to innovate and passion, which motivated us to believe in you, and we were right. You have grown incredibly and have always been relevant and reliable media platform.
In 2004, I was at Telefe Internacional, probably somewhere in Eastern Europe, trying to open a path for productions in Spanish. I was also raising my very young children, trying to balance my life while on a plane, and playing the mom role.
What was your first event in the industry?
If I’m not mistaken, my first market was in New Orleans, at Natpe. I was fascinated. It was the time of the big booths. I’ve been doing this for more than 20 or 25 years, and I think that’s where my passion for this industry began. I believe those of us who entered this field do not want to leave, despite all the ups and downs and difficulties we may go through, because it has extraordinary magic. Twenty years ago, it was a wonderful time, which was changing and moving. And still, here we are, trying to see what’s next.
How do you envision the future of the industry?
It is tough to say my vision of what will come next. I don’t think anyone knows. We can maybe foresee the next few months. In recent times, everything has changed so much that it seems to me that it is a matter of understanding that this is no longer stable, that we have to be more attentive than ever, that we have to be more flexible than ever and see what new business models are emerging and will emerge. What is the behavior of the new generations and new audiences? It is time to cooperate among all producers, creators, distributors, and platforms to understand their chosen content.
We are executives who are part of a gear that wants to understand, wants to build, and wants to make a profitable business. Therefore, it seems to me that what follows is a stage of great collaboration, cooperation, strengthening ties, and helping each other to make this continue to grow and be viable for everyone.
Happy birthday to my dear friends at TTVNews. You know that I love you very much, and I especially want to take this anniversary of 20 years to thank you for all the support that you have always given me throughout my career in this industry that we share.
