Beta Film has sold the Italian WWII drama Elsa Morante’s La Storia to the North American streaming service MHz Choice for the US and Canada, while YES and HOT acquired the series for Israel.
This is adding to the deals already closed with all Nordic pubcasters (NRK in Norway, YLE in Finland, SVT in Sweden, DR in Denmark, RUV in Island), among others. Based on the bestselling and iconic novel La Storia by Elsa Morante and starring multi-awarded Jasmine Trinca (The Gunman, Saint Laurent), Elsa Morante’s La Storia became a sensation in Italy.
The drama series won a prestigious Italian Nastro d’Argento for Series of the Year, broke viewership records on RAI1, and was hailed by national media as “A series of a gone by era, speaking the language of today” (Rolling Stone Italia).
Elsa Morante’s La Storia (8x1h) is directed by Francesca Archibugi (Romanzo famigliare), who co-wrote the screenplay with Francesco Piccolo (My Brilliant Friend), Giulia Calenda, and Ilaria Macchia (both Petra – Death Rites). Primetime Emmy nominee Luca Bigazzi (Paolo Sorrentino’s The Great Beauty, Il Divo) served as DOP, set design was done by Ludovica Ferrario (The Young Pope), Catherine Buyse (The New Pope, Spiderman – Far From Home) and Valentina Monticelli were responsible for costume design.
The series is produced by Picomedia (The Sea Beyond producer Roberto Sessa), Thalie Images (Stéphane Moatti), in collaboration with Rai Fiction (Maria Pia Ammirati, Francesco Nardella, Francesca Tura, Daria Hensemberger), and in co-production with Beta (Koby Gal-Raday, Ferdinand Dohna). Beta Film handles world sales.
