Movistar Plus+ has acquired Irvine Welsh’s Crime, while Euskal Telebista-EBT has acquired Whitstable Pearl.

Present at Mipcom in Cannes, Cineflix Rights has announced new sales for Irvine Welsh’s Crime, starring Dougray Scott in his International Emmy® award-winning lead role.

The series has been acquired by Telefonica’s pay TV platform Movistar Plus+ (Spain), SBS (Australia), RTE (Ireland), Blue Entertainment (Switzerland), and Canal+ for viewers in Luxembourg, Hungary, Romania, Czech Republic, Slovakia, and the Netherlands.

Irvine Welsh’s Crime (12x 60’, Seasons 1&2, Buccaneer and Off Grid Film & TV for ITVX/BritBox) follows Detective Inspector Ray Lennox (Dougray Scott, Mission: Impossible 2, Batwoman), a man engaged in his own disturbing battle while undertaking serious crime investigations in a city on the edge of the abyss. The series, adapted by acclaimed author Irvine Welsh from his own novel, also stars John Simm (Life on Mars, Grace), Joanna Vanderham (Warrior, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow), Angela Griffin (Harlots, White Lines), Ken Stott (The Dig, Fortitude), and Jamie Sives (Guilt, Too Close).

In addition, Cineflix Rights announced a raft of international deals for Whitstable Pearl, the best-selling cozy crime series based on Julie Wassmer’s much-loved novels.

The series is set in the beautiful English seaside town of Whitstable, home to Pearl Nolan (Kerry Godliman, Derek, After Life), who divides her time between serving up tasty seafood delicacies in her restaurant and solving the crimes, debauchery, and murder regularly brought in by the tide. Alongside Pearl is DI Mike McGuire (Howard Charles, The Musketeers) as her on-off rival and love interest.

Buyers acquiring all three seasons include Corus (Canada) for French-language drama channel SériesPlus, and RTS (Switzerland, while Euskal Telebista-EBT (Spain) has bought Seasons 1 and 2. Warner Bros. Discovery has bought Season 1 for its Italian service, with NHK (Japan) taking Season 2. SVT (Sweden), NRK (Norway), DR (Denmark), TV2 (Denmark) have all acquired Season 3, with BBC Worldwide taking Season 3 for its services covering Benelux and Asia, and NBCU International Networks also acquiring Season 3 for its pan-Africa networks.
