The new competition format will premiere on the platform on September 19.
ViX announced today that all eight episodes of Lucha de antojos, its new culinary competition reality show, will premiere exclusively on ViX’s premium plan on September 19. In addition, the first episode will be available on ViX Gratis on premiere day.
ViX’s original series is hosted by actor, entrepreneur and food influencer Andrés de Oliveira “Andrés Cooking” and features renowned Mexican chefs Anna Ruiz, Alexis Ayala, Alexander Suastegui, Chris Dommit, Diego Niño, Emmanuel Prieto, Josefina López and Mariano Torre Hutt.
Lucha de antojos features eight top chefs who will trade their luxurious kitchens for street carts to prepare their best version of a popular cuisine’s iconic dishes such as Tacos Al Pastor, Tortas Extremas, Chilaquiles, Tamales and Sopes. They will attempt to conquer the streets and demonstrate their prowess in front of the crowd to determine who can masterfully satisfy street cravings. The challenge will increase when they are judged by sommeliers of the grenache: the people who eat at street stalls every day.
The competition is not only for the honor of being recognized as the best craving creator, but also for the opportunity to challenge the Patrones: the legendary titans of street food. These masters of the streets represent the pinnacle of street food, and only the one that can impress them with his creativity and skill will have the chance to take them on.
In each Lucha de antojos challenge, the chefs will buy their ingredients in the traditional “Mercado de San Juan” and will have as their kitchen, some of the most colorful places in Mexico City such as Plaza Santo Domingo, Santa María la Ribera, Barrio de la Romita and Plaza San Jacinto. Here you will discover who is the best chef among the eight and what people really prefer: the tradition and flavors of the street chefs or the technique and gastronomic knowledge of the participants.
The series produced by VICE Studios LatAm offers not only a culinary competition, but also celebrates Mexico’s rich street food culture and the chefs who keep it alive.
