After showing a preview at the last edition of LA Screenings, the highly-anticipated Turkish drama Kuma, the Other Wife, a co-production between Latin America and India, is now making its debut for the international market at the current edition of Natpe Budapest.
The drama is being presented by GoQuest Media, the Indian side of the co-production, who joined LatAm’s VIP 2000 TV for this high-end project.
“We are here at Natpe, super excited to bring one of the most amazing titles of the season to the market, our first co-production: the Turkish series Kuma / The Other Wife, a co-production with India and Latin America”, Ofelya Tovmasyan, Sales CEE, CIS & Western Europe de GoQuest Media, said to ttvnews during the event.
“We are presenting it for the first time, very excited to share it with the partners. We will also have a screening here at the event.”, she added.
“Kuma is the first unique co-production between India and Latin America. India is GoQuest and from LatAm is the expert in telenovelas, VIP 2000 TV, and production is handled by a Turkish production company, Stellar Yapim, with a wonderful showrunner, Inci Gulen Oarr,” she explained. “His shows are known worldwide like Elif or Wounded Birds and many more. I’m sure Kuma will be the next in this line.”
Kuma narrates the journey of Ceylan, who runs away from home and meets Karan, a rich young businessman. They fall in love and soon marry. But when Ceylan is accused of murder, Karan marries his brother’s widow and forces Ceylan to become his kuma, a second wife, to bear him children.
Leading the cast are the dynamic Aybüke Yilmaz and Emre Özmen, who play the characters of Ceylan and Karan, respectively. Aybüke Yilmaz is known for her starring role in the 2023 series Fedakar, while Emre Özmen, an award-winning actor, has been acclaimed for his extensive work in Turkish films, dramas, and theater, especially in Bir Zamanlar Kibris / Once Upon a Time in Cyprus. They are joined by Ufuk Kaplan, famous for her Ask-I Memnu / Forbidden Love role.
“At this moment we have several projects in development and are very much looking for partners across the region, to be our next co-producer and develop more stories that will resonate with audiences across the world”, she said.
“In addition, we have incredible titles coming across Europe, specifically from Serbia, which will attract audiences across the globe, as well as new seasons of our successful titles”, she concluded.
