Distributed by Inter Medya and produced by Inter Yapım, the out-of-box revenge film Sáyara, written and directed by Can Evrenol, is getting ready to meet the audience at the screening during the Fantastic Galas at Marché du Film.
The gala, which will take place in Cannes at Cinema Olympia 3 on Saturday, May 18, at 8:00 p.m., will be attended by the film’s creator Can Evrenol and Inter Medya representatives.
Sáyara, which previously had a screening at the European Film Market at the 74th Berlin International Film Festival, is now preparing to meet with participants of the Marché du Film, which is one of the world’s largest and most important film markets and takes place along with the Cannes Film Festival.
Having had two different screenings at the International Istanbul Film Festival in April, Sáyara has also received invitations from many international festivals. Announcements for festivals whose programs have not yet been published will be made very soon.
Sáyara, which is included in Inter Medya’s extensive distribution catalog, has also been licensed to Korea. Inter Medya has also announced that negotiations are underway for Sáyara with many countries such as Taiwan, Japan, India and more.
Sáyara follows the story of Saýara, a young woman working as a cleaning lady at a gym in Istanbul. When her older sister, Yonca, is raped and murdered by Barış and his friends, who are privileged and well-connected, the court rules it as a suicide due to lack of evidence. Barış’s father, a member of parliament, ensures their release. However, Sayara, who was trained by her father, a former special operations commander, vows to seek her own justice, turning into an unexpected avenger.
Different from other subgenres of revenge films, Sáyara turns its main character into an anti-hero after embarking on a journey of revenge. The movie takes the audience on a journey of identification.
Can Evrenol fearlessly tackles themes of violence and sexuality with Sáyara, as he reflects reality in an uncensored manner in each of his films.
