The international producer is expanding its footprint in Latin America by developing the 6-part Mexican food series, Heavenly Bites, for the OTT platform, and announcing the appointment of Edgar Jaramillio as Senior Director, Unscripted in Latin America.

VICE Studios, the global production division of VICE Media Group, continues to grow its footprint in Latin America with the announcement of a new global commission for Netflix, 6-part food series La Divina Gula (Heavenly Bites).

La Divina Gula is a culinary journey through Mexico that follows the characters who have created the most eccentric and delicious flavors, by mixing their ingenuity with their passion for food.

La Divina Gula is created by Juan Márquez (The Chambermaid) created by Nacho Gil and Laura Woldenberg. The series is narrated by Memo Villegas, executive produced by Laura Woldenberg, produced by Ivonne Gutiérrez and edited by Joaquín Celaa. Carlos Correa serves as cinematographer.

As the business looks to expand its offering across both unscripted and scripted content with a focus on Latinx stories, the studio has also appointed Edgar Jaramillio as Senior Director, Unscripted. Jaramillio will oversee production operations in Latin America and will be responsible for growing VICE Studios’ non-scripted content pipeline in the region as well as developing and producing content focused on LatinX audiences. Jaramillo is based in Los Angeles and reports to Danny Gabai, Head of VICE Studios US.

Danny Gabai, Head of VICE Studios U.S said: “As we continue to build our business in the region, we are also focused on increasing our Latinx content offering across all genres to better represent the community and tell authentic stories. Edgar is a hugely talented creative who has already impressed us with his taste for strong characters, compelling stories and a very fresh perspective, and he has an unparalleled knowledge of the region – he is the perfect leader to grow our Latinx unscripted pipeline.”

Edgar Jaramillio, who was recently appointed as Senior Director, Unscripted for VICE Studios said: ““VICE Studios have a strong track record of producing premium unscripted content in Latin America and it’s exciting to join the business at this time of expansion and grow our slate of programming targeted at LatinX audiences. As we launch our fantastic series La Divina Gula with Netflix, we will continue to find unique stories from the region’s best creative talent.”

Edgar Jaramillo is an International and Daytime Emmy-nominated creative, who has produced television for Endemol Shine Boomdog, Viacom and Talpa Media amongst others. His work has reached global audiences on televised networks including Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, MTV, Univision and NBC Universal Telemundo. He recently executive produced three seasons of Amazon Prime Video’s Last One Laughing: Mexico and prior to that, he co-executive produced La Gran Sorpresa for Carnival Corporation, which filmed in over ten countries.

Previous productions in the region from VICE Studios for Netflix include Diego Orsono’s 1994, which follows a turmous year in Mexican politics, and the Mexican Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Science Award (Ariel) winning film The Three Deaths of Marisela Escobedo for Netflix – a story of a mother’s tireless crusade to jail her daughter’s murderer after Mexico’s justice system failed to do so.
