Somos Films and Divarte Cine have announced the completion of production on Encrucijadas, a new drama feature filmed in Caracas, Venezuela, adding another title to the catalog of the company led by Ivanna Villanueva and part of Somos Group.

Directed by José Antonio Varela, the film stars Rubén León, Varinia Arraíz, Adolfo Nittoli, Karen Rosales, Moisés Berr, Alejandra Sandoval and Jackson Gutiérrez. The production portrays life in Caracas’ working-class neighborhoods through a story marked by violence, family conflict and second chances.

The plot follows Nazaret, a man who returns to his community after serving a prison sentence for drug trafficking, hoping to rebuild his life and reconnect with Carmen, his former love. Instead, he finds a very different reality, in an environment shaped by corruption, betrayal and violence.

The film received support from Venezuela’s National Autonomous Center of Cinematography (CNAC) and marks the 17th production from Somos Films, which since 2018 has developed feature films in countries including Venezuela, Colombia, Mexico, Ecuador and Peru.

Encrucijadas is produced by Vladimir Sosa Sarabia, with executive producers Luis Villanueva, Ivanna Villanueva, Thaelman Urgelles, Priscila Guía, Alejandro Medina and José Antonio Varela. Following the completion of production, the film will begin its festival run before its theatrical release.

“We expect Encrucijadas to be very well received by audiences across all windows. The film features a highly contemporary story, a setting that will be familiar to Latin American viewers, and a cast of outstanding artistic and dramatic talent,” said Luis Villanueva.

He added that the film becomes part of the Somos Films catalog and the company’s slate of titles available to content distributors and platforms worldwide.

José Antonio Varela commented: “I am very happy to be close to releasing my seventh feature film and my fourth together with Somos Films. With this movie, I return to some of the social concerns I explored in my first film, La Clase. It is a very personal project through which I express some of my concerns about the society in which I live.”

The series Lucy es el 7, produced by Somos Productions and Pinolywood Studios, premieres next May 18 on HBO Max.

Lucy es el 7 is a youth musical produced in Puerto Rico, a genre of much popularity in the audience and a proven strength of the producing company of Somos Group. The series arrives on HBO Max to Latin America as part of the agreement with Somos Distribution, the global content distribution company that is part of Somos Group and led by Luis Villanueva.

Lucy es el 7 consists of 10 episodes and tells the story of Lucy, a pretty girl whose imagination is very particular. In the universe of her thoughts, she sees the people around her as if they were characters from an oriental anime. The one she sees the most in her imaginary world is Anthony, a boy who fights to become a popular singer and to have many fans who follow him on his social networks, although until now he has only one…Lucy.

Lucy wishes, with all her energy, to become a great music star, but not alone, rather together with Anthony because she has always been in love with him. Lucy always knew what her most important goal was: to share stages with Anthony until they become successful international artists. Anthony’s goal is to form a “K‑Pop” group, which must have 7 boys. This story, with all its incidents, is the basis of a production that includes catchy songs and attractive choreography on the stages of the island of Puerto Rico. The episodes of Lucy es el 7 will all be available for the audience’s enjoyment.

Luis Villanueva, president and CEO of Somos Group, declared: “We are very happy with the premiere of this series on HBO Max, which confirms the quality of a fun production with great appeal for an important demographic and in a key territory. We are pleased with its premiere on HBO Max, one of the most important platforms in the world and at the forefront of new entertainment consumption habits. We anticipate that the success of the series will strengthen the relationships between our companies.

Somos Distribution will launch its new releases in Miami during Content Americas, presenting a slate of Turkish dramas led by Secrets of Pearls, Hekimoglu, and For My Son, titles that further strengthen the company’s broad catalog.

Secrets of Pearls consists of 135 episodes across two seasons. The drama tells the story of Azem, a literature professor whose perfect life collapses when he is imprisoned and accused of his wife’s murder. After years behind bars, he dreams of reuniting with his children, who have since been adopted by different families. After his release, he meets Dilber, a troubled dancer, and an uncertain relationship develops. To survive, he gives private lessons under an assumed name and becomes attracted to Piraye, the mother of one of his students. Torn between divided love and the passage of time, Azem struggles to rebuild his life and recover what he has lost.

The drama Hekimoglu, with 157 episodes, stars Timuçin Esen as Ateş Hekimoğlu, an infectious-diseases and nephrology specialist who solves extraordinary cases using distinctive methods alongside his three-person team. The series follows the daily life of this antisocial, witty, and unconventional medical genius who challenges hospital rules and does whatever it takes to practice medicine his way. Accompanied by Orhan Yavuz (Okan Yalabık), as Hekimoğlu’s reputation gradually grows, his inability to keep up with the hospital hierarchy often puts his administrator, İpek (Ebru Özkan), in difficult situations. A local adaptation of the hit U.S. series House M.D., the show explores themes of love, sacrifice, camaraderie, discipline, and humanity in every episode. It was voted the best remake in the history of Turkish television by viewers.

The new additions to the Turkish drama portfolio conclude with For My Son. This production consists of 242 episodes across three seasons. The story follows the drama of Poyraz Karayel (İlker Kaleli), a police officer who was suspended from the force for a crime he did not commit. After being released from prison, Poyraz finds himself without a job or a family, and his son is no longer with him. As he tries to devise a plan to regain custody of his son and reclaim his profession, his former boss offers him a mission: to infiltrate one of the city’s most notorious mafia families. Bahri Umman (Musa Uzunlar) is a powerful crime boss, and Poyraz must provide intelligence on the organization and bring Bahri to justice. Only then will he be able to restore his reputation and rebuild his life. Along the way, Poyraz falls in love with Bahri’s daughter, Ayşegül (Burçin Terzioğlu). However, this love seems impossible, as Poyraz must keep his mission a secret from her. The operation of his life awaits him.

Secrets of Pearls, Hekimoglu, and For My Son join other successful Turkish dramas in the portfolio, such as Bahar, Love for Rent, Gummus, Destiny, and That Girl. In addition, the RCTV catalog is also offered, featuring major telenovelas remastered in HD such as Juana la Virgen and Mi Gorda Bella, as well as a complete collection of classic romantic telenovelas of all time, available for AVOD and FAST deals.

At Content Americas, Somos Distribution is showcasing series such as Hora 0 and Behzat Hammer & Rose, as well as Ramírez, a Peruvian crime series, and hit productions from sister company Somos Productions: Hasta que te conocí, Súbete a mi moto, Gina Yei, and Lucy es el 7. The company will also present Enchufe TV’s comedy shorts, spanning 21 seasons in 22-minute editions. Enchufe.tv is a comedy platform for Latin American and Hispanic audiences, offering a light and entertaining take on everyday characters and situations.

The company will be present at Suite 402 of the Hilton Miami Hotel. Attending will be Luis Villanueva, company president; Francisco Villanueva, VP and COO; and Mariana Villanueva, Sales Manager, along with other executives.

Somos Fast (a company that is part of Somos Group, chaired by Luis Villanueva) launched Novelas de Siempre in the United States and Mexico, a new advertising-supported television channel (FAST) that joins the company’s channels introduced in this innovative market.

Novelas de Siempre programs telenovelas from the largest catalogs of the genre, presenting successful stories from Latin America, Turkey, and Greece, among other countries.

Novelas de Siempre entertains with the quintessential Latin television genre, which has captivated audiences worldwide with its intense and addictive melodramatic plots featuring themes of love, betrayal, revenge, and family secrets.

Novelas de Siempre begins its broadcast with productions from countries with a tradition in the genre, such as Venezuela and Colombia, subsequently adding Mexican, Turkish, and other dramas. Originating in Latin America, telenovelas are highly emotional dramas that transcend borders, gaining popularity in multiple languages and resonating deeply among Spanish-speaking communities in the U.S. and Latin America. Novelas de Siempre airs these popular stories 24 hours a day, always maintaining the same schedules and offering weekly marathons to engage and retain the audience. Beloved artists, appreciated in Latin communities, bring these powerful plots to life, making telenovelas a pillar of entertainment culture. Targeted at a broad audience and diverse age groups, Novelas de Siempre, whose licenses allow it to be available in the United States, Canada, and Latin America, presents proven narratives that have stood the test of time and continue to thrive, not only through classic productions but also by adding contemporary hits broadcast all day, every day.

Luis Villanueva, President and CEO of Somos Group, stated: “This launch of Novelas de Siempre in the U.S. and Mexican markets begins its growth in distribution, which we are confident will extend to other markets, adding more distribution clients and platforms. The telenovela is a very popular genre throughout the hemisphere; we know the genre in all its details and are confident that we will gain audience acceptance by later adding dramas from countries like Mexico, Turkey, and others. Our long-standing relationships and experience in production and distribution give us access to content that guarantees novelty and appeal for the channel.”

Somos Fast, in addition to Novelas de Siempre, also offers the channels Cine en Español and Cine de Horror. Cine en Español programs a selection of modern and contemporary theatrical films in Spanish, featuring stories and stars from the Spanish-language film industry in genres preferred by audiences. The channel entertains with high-quality films from all Spanish-speaking countries (Mexico, Spain, Argentina, Colombia, Peru, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Venezuela, and others) with stories of action, comedy, drama, romance, and suspense, among others. Cine de Horror, for its part, entertains by presenting a selection and variety of films from one of the most popular genres in cinema, with its dark and daring themes. Cine de Horror programs high-quality productions with the excitement, fear, rising tension, impact, and adrenaline characteristic of this type of cinema, 24 hours a day.

The Somos Fast channels, in addition to their presence as linear channels, also offer their content in the AVOD option (on demand, with advertising), increasingly popular among audiences. The Somos Fast channels are available on various platforms and smart TVs such as LG, TCL, The Roku Channel, Plex, FlixLatino, Fawsome, Sling, among others, offering this content in the United States, Canada, and Latin America.

Semillitas, the children’s animation pay-TV channel owned by SomosTV, a company chaired by Luis Villanueva and part of SOMOS Group, celebrates this December its 16th anniversary since going on air.

The channel, launched in 2009, broadcasts internationally recognized children’s animation in a safe, educational environment free of violence and commercials, while also promoting the traditions and values of the Latin family.

Semillitas reaches audiences in the United States, The Caribbean, Panama, and Central America, competing with highly prestigious brands among the leading cable and satellite companies in the region.

Semillitas features renowned animation such as Mini Heroes of the Forest, Musipaches, Maya the Bee, Angelina Ballerina, Strawberry Shortcake, Bob the Builder, Little People, Caillou, and Fireman Sam. All of its content is in High Definition and includes Closed Captioning and Video Description, which earned it the prestigious Outstanding Achievement: Spanish Media Award granted by the American Council of the Blind. The channel also maintains an active presence on social media, as well as an attractive website.

Children’s entertainment is one of the most complex areas of the industry today. The explosion of free online content, with few barriers and protections, has alarmed many experts and families. It is common to find both access to inappropriate content for young children and commercial messages that distort the purpose of leisure time for this audience segment. Semillitas, focused on children ages 2 to 6, provides parents with the peace of mind needed to attend to other household tasks, as well as the opportunity to interact with the content in an active and educational experience with their children. The programming, in neutral Spanish, is packaged with culturally relevant interstitials, highlighting values such as the special role of family and elders within the Latin community.

Luis Villanueva, President and CEO of SOMOS Group, celebrated this milestone in the channel’s history: “We are very happy and proud to have reached this moment in Semillitas’ history, a channel we create with so much care and affection. We are very aware of the responsibility this entails, both in the selection of content and in the production of the signal. We conceive of Semillitas not just as a channel in itself, but as an ally of parents in the education and development of the future generation, mindful of the problems that unrestricted access to technology generates. The feedback we receive from audiences, both from our clients and on social media, shows that Semillitas and its messages go beyond its distribution, being attractive to all Spanish-speaking countries.”

The series is aimed at preschool-aged children and joins the lineup of high-quality, internationally recognized animation programming offered by Semillitas. Semillitas is known for providing safe, educational entertainment, free of violence and commercials, promoting the values of the Latino community in the United States, Central America, Panama, and the Caribbean.

Mini Heroes of the Forest, set to premiere on the channel in January, joins a catalog of highly successful international series such as Musipaches, Maya the Bee, Angelina Ballerina, Strawberry Shortcake, Bob the Builder, Little People, Caillou, and Fireman Sam.

Semillitas complements its offering with educational interstitials that celebrate the values, traditions, and festivities of Latin culture. Semillitas broadcasts its content in High Definition and includes Closed Captioning and Audio Description, which earned it the prestigious recognition Outstanding Achievement: Spanish Media Award granted by the American Council of the Blind.

Based on the books of the same name published by the French publisher Auzou, specialized in children’s topics and edited in more than 15 countries, Mini Heroes of the Forest is a 3D comedy and adventure series. Produced by Movimenti Production and MoBo, and co-produced by Zodiak Kids & Family France, the production consists of a total of 52 episodes, each 7 minutes long.

The series tells the adventures of four small forest animals who have special powers. Gabin has the Rabbit Hug, capable of improving any situation; Gaston has the Bear Jump and Roll, which cheers everyone around him; Jade has the Fox Ear, which allows her to communicate with anyone; and Juliette has the Owl Eye, with which she protects and cares for her friends. At the end of the school day, the protagonists put on their secret costumes and discover the surprises the forest has in store for them.

Luis Villanueva, President and CEO of SomosGroup, expressed his satisfaction with this achievement: “We are very happy with the addition of Mini Heroes of the Forest to our programming. Semillitas is in a very competitive market and in a category where it stands out by working with parents to entertain the little ones safely. This series joins the recent premiere of Musipaches and confirms our commitment to offering the community the best animated series, focused on educating and protecting future generations.”

Lucy is the 7, produced by SOMOS Productions and Pinolywood Studios, will be available on HBO Max—Warner Bros. Discovery’s streaming platform—thanks to an agreement with SOMOS Distribution, a global content distributor under SOMOS Group, led by Luis Villanueva.

The series is a youth musical produced in Puerto Rico, a genre that holds strong popularity and is a hallmark of SOMOS Group’s production company. The show’s first season, debuting in September on HBO Max Latin America, consists of 10 episodes.

The show follows Lucy, a sweet girl with a wildly imaginative mind. In her inner world, she sees those around her as characters from Japanese anime. The person she sees most vividly is Anthony—a boy striving to become a famous singer with many social media followers, although at the moment, he only has one…Lucy. Her biggest dream is to become a music star alongside Anthony, as she’s always been in love with him. Their shared goal is to perform together on stage and rise to fame as international artists. Anthony’s vision is to form a seven-member K-Pop group, and this musical brings that dream to life with catchy songs and dazzling choreography—all set against the vibrant backdrop of Puerto Rico.

Luis Villanueva, President and CEO of SOMOS Group, stated: “We are thrilled to have reached this agreement with Max, and we believe there’s no better platform to deliver a high-quality and entertaining production. It’s a genre that resonates with viewers of all ages thanks to its joy and optimism. Both teams worked hard, and this collaboration will surely lead to more opportunities in the future.”
