ViX announces the premiere of Hotel Todo Incluido, a new original fantasy comedy series starring José Eduardo Derbez, Sofía Castro and Consuelo Duval available beginning August 28, with all episodes streaming from day one and the first episode available free to watch.

The story follows Sebastián (José Eduardo Derbez), a young man whose lifelong dream has been to become “the best hotel manager” in the business. When he is given the opportunity to run the Hotel Amalaya del Río, aniconic mountain resort that once enjoyed its golden years, he believes the time has finally come to prove his talent.

What he finds is a hotel filled with charm, unforgettable guests, and an eccentric team of employees, including Marcela (Sofía Castro), an efficient and courageous staff member who becomes his closest ally; Dr. Cástulo Fernández (Harold Azuara); Tere (Mónica del Carmen); Ángel (Javier Ibarreche); Carlos (Daniel Bello); and Sven (Joel Cederberg) an enthusiastic Swedish bartender, among many other characters who turn every dayinto an unpredictable adventure.

The presence of Spanish content in Central and Eastern Europe continues to strengthen, driven by both the strength of local productions and the growing demand for stories with a cultural identity that resonates with audiences in the region. In this context, Onza Distribution has positioned itself thanks to a diverse catalog that combines original productions with carefully selected international titles to meet the needs of each market.

During her participation in NEM Dubrovnik, Erika Gómez, Sales Director of Onza Distribution, highlighted the strong performance of Portuguese telenovelas within the CEE region, a genre that the company has made one of its main selling points.

In addition to its fiction offerings, the distributor is entering the market with new formats and series across various genres, including the Slovakian thriller Neuer and the successful Romanian adaptation of El Hormiguero.

How has the presence of Spanish content evolved in the EEC region?

In this region, Onza has a catalog that, in my opinion, performs very well. And we’re fortunate in that regard, because some of our content is produced by Onza itself, but we also represent other production companies from other countries, which gives us a variety of content that can certainly perform well in these regions.

Furthermore, for example, our best-selling content is telenovelas. And our telenovelas are from Portugal. Portugal is a Mediterranean country, but it’s part of Europe, and culturally it resonates quite a bit with this region. And it performs very well. The telenovela market is usually divided between Mexico and Turkey, and we’ve carved out a niche for ourselves with our Portuguese telenovelas, because, in my opinion, they have the best of both cultures. Perhaps they aren’t as intense, so to speak, as Turkish series in terms of content. And they also resonate with a more Mexican feel, because in the end, we’re all a bit alike in that sense, all Latinos in general.

There’s Spanish-language content that might be somewhat modern for these regions. Or LGBTQ+ content, which, because we work with so many producers from so many countries, allows us to choose what to offer. So there we do have an opportunity.

What content are your clients currently presenting?

We have a series that’s very similar to Cacao in style called La Hacienda (The Color of Love). It’s a story about three sisters who inherit land in Angola. And when they go to Angola, they discover that another family is fighting over the estate because there were two wills. What happens is that one of the sisters falls in love with the other heir, and then they have a Romeo and Juliet-style relationship. It takes place in Angola, which is very exotic and more similar to Cacao.

What we’re presenting in this market now is the telenovela Te doy la vida, which is a remake of the Mexican version from Televisa. It’s the story of a married couple who have an adopted son, and when their son is diagnosed with leukemia, they have to contact the biological father to ask him to be a bone marrow donor. At that moment, the whole family is thrown into turmoil because the biological father’s arrival disrupts everything. So, it’s a story that has all the elements to succeed, and the lead actor is the same as in Cacao.

What other productions are you presenting, besides telenovelas?

We have a series from the region called Neuer, a police procedural thriller. It’s the most-watched series on TV JOJ in Slovakia. It’s a thriller based on a best-selling novel, a very mature, serious, and dark story. It has a Nordic crime style. It’s very action-packed. It’s also very male-oriented. It has that dark, investigative style, a bit like Nordic noir, which resonates a lot with that. So, culturally, with this region, this series is also generating a lot of interest.

What other new things have you brought to this market?

We’ve adapted El Hormiguero, the famous Spanish format, for Romania. Antena 3 did the adaptation in Romania. The difference is that they have a female presenter instead of a male one. Her name is Denise Rifai, who is probably the most famous woman in the country. Her trademark is that she conducts very direct interviews with politicians. The audience didn’t expect that someone with such a serious profile could be capable of making so many jokes, of creating such a family-friendly, fun show, and it’s been a huge success.

One trend that distributors in this market share is that if a title is successful in Romania, it tends to be replicated in other territories in the region…

Absolutely. In fact, many clients, upon learning that the format has been so successfully adapted in Romania, are requesting it from us, because they actually use it as a reference. That’s important.

The production company will be one of the pioneers in Spain in the development of vertical content formats.

Onza, the production company known for titles such as El Ministerio del Tiempo, Atasco, Sin Gluten and Hernán, has announced the appointment of showrunner David Ávila to lead a new division specialised in the production of vertical content, as well as supporting its documentary line.

David Ávila is an audiovisual executive creative known for projects including Cuando nadie me ve (Movistar+), (P)ícaro: El pequeño Nicolás (Netflix), Serás Farruquito (Movistar+), Wake up (RTVE Play), and Los 3 Basketeros.

From Onza, they state that his talent and experience in audiovisual marketing as well as in the creation and production of digital formats reflect exactly the type of profile needed to lead this new division within the production companys content strategy.

“I believe it is necessary to understand and embrace new trends. The challenge is to learn how the way we consume stories evolves and to prove that it is possible to produce vertical content that is both profitable and high quality,” says David Ávila.

On 27 May, Habitación Cero -one of the first vertical fiction projects created by the new division- was awarded at Conecta Fiction Mallorca 2026 with the New Art Award, which includes €5,000 in post-production services.

This new initiative comes at a time of strong global growth in vertical content and so-called “microdramas”, formats designed for mobile consumption and characterised by short episodes and highly serialised storytelling.

Specialised platforms such as ReelShort, DramaBox, GoodShort and DramaClick have turned this model into one of the fastest-growing audiovisual trends internationally, especially among younger, mobile-first audiences. The rise of vertical dramas is already reflected in sector figures: platforms such as DramaBox exceeded US$217 million in revenue in 2024, while the US microdrama market now generates more than US$1.3 billion annually.

“We are very pleased with this appointment. David is an extraordinarily creative person who brings us many ambitious ideas to address a market trend that, as a growing production company, we cannot ignore,” says Onza CEO Gonzalo Sagardía.

With this strategic move, Onza positions itself at the forefront of production in Spain by integrating fiction, entertainment and mobile-native micro-documentary formats into its business line.

The general director of Onza Distribution highlighted the impact of the launch and hinted at new projects in development, including the return of the hit series Atasco.

During the Mipcom international market, Carlos Garde, general director of Onza Distribution, shared the impressive results of the premiere of Gluten Free, the company’s new comedy, which recently debuted on Televisión Española with record-breaking numbers.

“We premiered it last week in prime time on Televisión Española, and it has been the best comedy series debut in the last ten years,” said Garde. The executive explained that the show outperformed the second-best option in its time slot by more than 70%, becoming a true audience phenomenon.

The success extended beyond broadcast TV: just a few days after its television debut, the series landed on Amazon Prime Video, where it quickly became the number-one title on the platform in Spain—not only among series but across all available productions.

Regarding production, Garde noted that Gluten Free benefited from Spain’s tax incentives and featured Araceli Álvarez de Sotomayor, creator of Machos Alfa and La que se avecina, as showrunner and head writer. “It was a pleasure working with Araceli; the production went extremely well,” he said.

As for Onza’s upcoming projects, Garde mentioned that the company has several productions in development, though they cannot yet be officially announced. He did reveal, however, that they are currently filming a new series in the Basque Country and other regions of Spain.

Garde also celebrated the ongoing success of Atasco, another of Onza’s flagship productions. “The first and second seasons have already premiered, both reaching number one on Prime Video. We’ve sold the format in several countries, and the third season is ready to premiere soon,” he said.

According to Garde, the series has already secured its fourth and fifth seasons, solidifying its place as one of the company’s most successful and enduring productions.
