Mediterráneo Mediaset España Group, Mediaset Distribution, and Seven. One Studios International will share a single space for the first time at Mipcom, which holds its next edition from October 12 to 15 in Cannes.

The distribution companies of Mediaset España, Mediaset Italia, and ProSiebenSat.1 Media will be present together at stand P4.C18 -located on the fourth floor of the Palais des Festivals- offering clients, partners, and media representatives a common meeting point during the event.

This initiative reflects the growing cooperation between MFE-MediaForEurope and ProSiebenSat.1 Media, aiming to explore new avenues for collaboration and synergies between their respective distribution businesses and to expand international opportunities for their catalogs, all while preserving each company’s identity and autonomy.

“Mipcom is, above all, a global meeting point for content, creativity, and talent. For Mediterráneo, being part of this joint presence offers us a valuable opportunity to bring our stories and formats to new partners and territories, while strengthening connections and exploring synergies among the three companies. We believe there is great potential in combining our market knowledge and relationships to help our content reach even further in international markets,” highlights Ghislain Barrois, CEO of Mediterráneo Mediaset España Group.

“‘Stronger Together’ expresses the ambition shared by MFE and ProSiebenSat.1: to bring a stronger European voice to the international content market. Both companies have deep roots in their respective markets and long-standing industry relationships. By combining these strengths, we can expand the international reach of our content and unlock new opportunities across various markets,” notes Giacomo Poletti, Group Director of Rights and Distribution Partnerships at Mediaset (MFE-MediaForEurope).

“Mipcom provides an ideal setting to put the power of cooperation into practice. By bringing our three distribution companies together in one space, we make it easier for clients and partners to connect with us, while preserving each company’s identity and independence. This is a visible first step in our broader collaboration,” explains Henrik Pabst, Chief Content Officer at ProSiebenSat.1 Media SE.

Mediterráneo’s drama lineup for Mipcom

Key titles Mediterráneo will present in Cannes include Marusía. Vientos de Honor, set at the Spanish Navy’s Military Naval Academy; El Marqués, 1985, a fictionalized true-crime series inspired by the disappearance of Santiago Corella (“El Nani”) that is set to premiere soon on Prime Video; and Olivia, a feel-good family dramedy produced by Studio60 and Womack Producciones for Disney+ in Spain, which Mediterráneo is marketing both as a finished product and for international adaptation.

Produced by Luis Cabrera, from Croatia

Mediterráneo Mediaset España’s content has successfully carved out a niche for itself and reached multiple international destinations, thanks to its captivating stories and high production quality. Central and Eastern Europe is no exception, where the group has successfully secured agreements for both the distribution of finished content and the adaptation of formats.

The group was present this week at NEM Dubrovnik to further strengthen its relationships in this region, showcasing a vast catalog of new programs with the potential to conquer new screens.

In an interview with ttvnews from the event in Croatia, Rocío Cachero, International Sales Executive at Mediterráneo Mediaset España, analyzes consumption trends in the CEE region, reviews the main titles the company is presenting in Dubrovnik, and previews the new additions to its catalog in the coming months.

How important is the CEE region to Mediterráneo’s strategy?

For us, Eastern Europe has always been a key region. We are fortunate to have very strong and long-lasting relationships with many clients in different territories, and also with a wide variety of clients in very diverse territories. We have closed deals in Poland, Romania, Croatia, Slovenia, Slovakia, Serbia… really throughout the region.

What type of content is most in demand in the region?

Free TV has been very dominant in Eastern Europe. Therefore, we work a lot with free-to-air channels. But also with platforms, increasingly so now. In fact, we just closed a deal with a platform in the region. Then the content depends somewhat on the needs of each channel and each region. It’s true that some are more open to Spanish content than others.

Is the sale of formats something that’s becoming increasingly common these days? How do you see it today compared to previous years?

I think it’s following a similar evolution. Aside from selling syndicated content, we’ve also done a lot of work in the region thanks to formats. We’ve optioned some, and others have actually been produced. In Hungary, for example, where selling syndicated content is perhaps more complicated, we produced a version of Chiringuito de Pepe. That same series is currently optioned by RTL in Croatia, and we also had a version in Greece.

Our catalog allows us to work both ways. There are territories where syndicated content has more potential, and in others where we have the opportunity to explore options thanks to formats.

What content are you presenting at this NEM Dubrovnik market?

At this market, we’re presenting a series called Olivia. It’s a Disney+ series, produced in Spain. It’s produced by Womack Studios and Studio60, and Mediterráneo handles international distribution, both of the finished content and the format. We see that the format has a lot of potential because it’s a series with universal values. It’s about family, about reconciliation. And it’s for a very broad audience. It’s designed to connect with a family audience. Plus, it’s set in a magical environment, so it has this element that’s very characteristic of the series, which makes it stand out from any other family drama. It’s the literal description of feel-good content; it’s a series that makes you feel good, that you watch and it fills your soul.

It’s six 40-minute episodes, so it’s very easy to watch. And I think it’s going to be very popular. It’s very different from other titles we have in our catalog, but it’s a genre with a large audience and high demand. Right now there are tons of thriller and crime series, and so on, but it’s difficult to find a family series that hits all the right notes, that can be appreciated by different audiences. And then the production values of the series as a finished product are wonderful. It has a fantastic cast. So we have a lot of confidence in both the final product and the format.

What other content are you presenting?

We continue with Pura Sangre, which we did indeed present at Series Mania. This is a family drama, but more in the style of a saga. It blends inter-family relationships with a crime and investigation element, which makes it very appealing to audiences because it creates that element of mystery that hooks you. It begins with a poisoned horse belonging to a super-wealthy aristocratic family that breeds Thoroughbred horses. From there, an investigation begins that ultimately uncovers many family secrets that have been hidden for years. It has that element of mystery that really captivates the audience.

We have closed several deals that we can’t announce yet. We believe it has potential. In fact, we’ve received interest from several buyers in this market in the region, so we expect to confirm even more deals.

We are also offering Punto Nemo, which is a Prime Video series with two seasons. The second season premiered a couple of months ago, continuing the first season to bring the series to a close. It has finished airing. It’s performed very well on the platform, and we’ve also closed several deals, one already in the territory, another in the Middle East. We believe it rounds out our offering for this year because it’s a pure platform series, or a very premium Pay TV series, with a lot of action, a bit more masculine, even a bit more for a younger audience. It has a very well-known cast and brilliant creatives behind the series. And it makes our catalog and our offerings appealing to all audiences, as we like to say, giving us different options for different clients and their needs.

What does Mediterráneo have in store for the rest of the year?

We have several series that will premiere soon. Among them is Ella, maldita alma, a drama series starring Max Iglesias and Martiño Rivas. We think it will do well. It will premiere soon on Telecinco.

We also have a series produced by Unicorn Content called Marusía: Vientos de honor. It’s a series set at the naval academy, which appeals to a broad audience because it follows the new students, the cadets who enter the school. It’s a drama with a touch of investigation. When these cadets arrive, a suicide had occurred the previous year, so the entire investigation revolves around what happened. There’s a very youthful perspective on military values and honor. This series will likely premiere next year.

What will be your next international destination?

The next market will be Iberseries in Madrid. Then we’ll go to MIPCOM in Cannes, and to Asia for ATF.

Spanish group Mediterráneo is present at Content Europe, which is taking place this week at the Marriott Hotel in Lisbon, to present its new series and premieres to the European market.

The catalog starts with the new season of Point Nemo, a sci-fi thriller directed by Alex Rodrigo (Money Heist) that explores the mysteries surrounding the Pacific Ocean’s most enigmatic point. Point Nemo follows an oceanographic expedition that embarks on a vessel to investigate and raise awareness about the issues surrounding the plastic island located in the South Pacific Ocean. Their plans take an unexpected turn when a powerful storm drives them to the most remote point on the planet, a desolate island. In this inhospitable place, which was once home to a group of Russian military personnel, the protagonists must face extreme challenges as they struggle to survive and make it back safely.

In addition, Pure Blood is a gripping family drama set in the elite world of purebred horse breeding. At the heart of the story is the Monteclaro family, aristocrats whose centuries-old estate is shaken when their most valuable stallion and several foals are found poisoned. As an investigation unfolds, a web of buried secrets and long-standing rivalries begins to unravel. With local tensions rising and the family’s legacy on the line, Pura Sangre offers a rich blend of mystery, intrigue, and emotional drama. A story of loyalty versus ambition where every character has something to hide… and even more to lose.

The group is also presenting Call My Agent, a romantic comedy that takes us inside Rebecca Talent, a prestigious talent agency where a team of ambitious agents navigates the dazzling but chaotic world of show business. Rebecca Talent is one of Spain’s most prestigious talent agencies, across 13 fast-moving episodes, the agents must solve outrageous industry challenges while balancing celebrity demands, agency rivalries, and their own messy personal lives. With humor, heart, and unexpected cameos from real-life stars playing themselves, La Agencia offers a bold, behind-the-scenes look at fame, ambition, and the price of managing it all. Because while they handle the stars—who’s handling them?

Moreover, Marusia: Naval Academy is a powerful story about honor, discipline and the unbreakable bonds forged in the line of duty, but also about the secrets hidden behind the doors of a rigidly disciplined institution. Marusia: Naval Academy is a military drama set at the Naval Academy, where the arrival of Teresa Ibarra as the first female director reopens the mystery surrounding a cadet’s suicide and uncovers secrets from the past that threaten the institution. At the same time, a new generation of young cadets faces extreme training that will test their friendships, loyalty, and identities in a world defined by discipline, sacrifice, and duty.

Lastly, Vanished is a thriller series around the disappearance of a young boy that uncovers a web of grudges and broken loyalties among his friends, who are hiding secrets about how they truly feel about him. Vanished tells the story of Jon, a young man who vanishes after a night of partying in the mountains with his friends. The only clue he leaves behind is the last video he posted on social media hours before his disappearance, which quickly goes viral. Is it a cruel joke? Has he really gone missing? Is he alive or dead? His friends are confused and devastated, although each of them, for different reasons, had motives to hate him. Episode after episode, the local police led by the mother of one of the girls in the group, work tirelessly to uncover what really happened.

Produced by Luis Cabrera and Ana Paula Carreira, from Miami

What family doesn’t keep secrets? Where do the real threats lurk? How far will loyalty and love go when power and money come into play?

These are some of the questions posed by Pura Sangre, the new drama that Telecinco will premiere soon and which leads the Mediterráneo Mediaset España catalog at the current edition of Content Americas, taking place this week in Miami.

“Mediterráneo presents as a world premiere the upcoming series Pura Sangre, which will debut on Telecinco,” began Silvia Cotino, Deputy Director of Mediterráneo Mediaset España, in an interview with ttvnews.

“It’s our Spanish Yellowstone,” the executive emphasized. “A family saga set against the stunning backdrop of Spain and featuring stories that have unfolded episode by episode. We hope it will be enjoyed by audiences both in Spain and in the region.”

Produced in collaboration with Shine Iberia (Banijay Iberia), Pura Sangre is an intense ensemble drama that blends family conflicts, romance, thriller, and mystery at the heart of a powerful aristocratic saga. The rural and equestrian world serves as a backdrop, and a criminal investigation is the catalyst for all its storylines.

It stars Ángela Molina, Pep Munné, Amaia Salamanca, Aitor Luna, Blanca Romero, Jaime Zatarain, Maru Valdivielso, and Pedro Casablanc, leading a cast of nearly 90 actors. Filming took place over 17 weeks in 25 natural locations across Castile and León and the Community of Madrid, with more than 80% of the scenes shot outdoors.

“In addition to Pura Sangre, we’re bringing the remake of Call My Agent, called La Agencia, to the region for the first time,” she added. “We’re premiering it this fall on Telecinco. It’s a fantastic dramedy with a wonderful cast, and after its broadcast in Spain, it’s now streaming on Disney+ Spain.”

Produced by Good Mood (Mediawan) for Mediaset España, with Daniel Écija and Ghislain Barrois as executive producers; Víctor Pedreira as head of the writing team and David Molina Encinas leading the directing team, this new series offers a vibrant and exciting look at the entertainment world from the perspective of those who work behind the scenes: talent agents.

Among other new offerings, Mediterráneo is also presenting series such as Desaparecido, a production by iZen, Pausoka, and ETV, with Netflix Spain as its first platform; and Punto Nemo, a production for Amazon Prime Video.

“And also Mediaset’s catalog, which is incredibly varied, with all kinds of genres, both fiction and entertainment,” the executive added.

Finally, Cotino highlighted the great success of the period drama, La Favorita, which, it should be noted, has become a favorite with audiences worldwide. “We are thrilled because last year we started working on the period drama produced with Bambú, La Favorita, and we are currently finalizing our 71st territory,” she revealed.

“In Latin America, it has premiered on Flow and Max, and in the US, it airs on Walter Presents. It’s a genre we didn’t have in our catalog, and we’ve been very happy with the content and working with Bambú. We hope to finalize new territories soon,” she concluded.

The group knows firsthand the importance of participating in strategic markets throughout the year, in order to replicate the great success of its titles beyond Spain’s borders and forge new ties with key players in the international market.

As the next destination in its annual calendar, the Spanish giant will be present at NEM Dubrovnik, which stands as as an ideal showcase to present its new content to buyers and partners in Eastern Europe.

In the following interview with ttvnews, Rocío Cachero, Head of International Sales at Mediterráneo Mediaset España, shares the highlights of the group’s lineup for this new edition of the event in Croatia and their main objectives for the market.

What motivated Mediterráneo to participate in NEM Dubrovnik this year?

Mediterráneo Mediaset España Group participated in NEM Dubrovnik for the first time in 2019, and we’ve kept the date marked on our calendar ever since. Year after year, we see significant growth in the market, which has undoubtedly found its niche and become an essential event for the region.

What will be the main goals of your presence at the event?

NEM fits very well within Mediterráneo’s international strategy because it allows us to have a strong presence in a market that, although more regional, brings together relevant buyers and partners from Eastern Europe. It is an excellent platform to showcase our catalog, especially our most recent titles.

Our presence is even more important given the absence of Miptv, which leaves a gap in Europe in the second quarter of the year. Therefore, NEM is important for strengthening networking with our current and potential partners, in addition to generating new opportunities and meeting new clients in the region who don’t usually attend other events.

What titles or projects will you be presenting at this edition?

Among our most notable new releases for this edition are several fiction titles that cover different genres and audience profiles.

Our main launch is La favorita 1922, an ambitious period series that premiered with great success on Telecinco and currently has a second window on Netflix. It’s a series that has generated significant global interest, with pre-orders in more than 20 territories before its premiere. We believe its quality and subject matter make it a great fit for channel schedules in Central and Eastern Europe.

We will also present Point Nemo, a highly-produced science fiction thriller with a top-tier cast. The series premiered to great success on Prime Video, and we believe it has enormous potential for pay TV operators and VOD platforms looking for content with an immersive and compelling narrative.

Finally, we will highlight Detective Romi, a procedural series with an original narrative approach, starring a detective with a powerful personality who has a very unique way of solving the cases presented.

Each of these titles reflects different editorial commitments within our international strategy.

What opportunities do you currently see in Central and Eastern Europe for Spanish content?

Eastern Europe has always held great potential for Mediterraneo. We work extensively with channels and platforms in the region, both in broadcasting canned content and in adaptations of our formats. Countries such as Croatia, Slovenia, Slovakia, Romania, Bulgaria, and the former Yugoslav countries regularly broadcast our content, so the region offers us many business opportunities.

What type of content do you think generates the most interest in these markets? Is there a boom in specific genres?

Fiction is undoubtedly our go-to content in the region and the one with the greatest potential, but there is no common predominant genre for the channels or territories. Although there are certain similarities across the region, each country has very specific interests. In Bulgaria, for example, our comedies are extremely successful, which is unusual, with La que se avecina leading the way and having been broadcast for over a decade. There are also many specificities depending on the client. In Eastern Europe, there is a strong predominance of free-to-air channels, and it’s a region where we’ve worked extensively with format adaptations: Escenas de matrimonio was adapted locally in Croatia for Nova TV; Chiringuito de Pepe was adapted locally in Hungary for TV2 and is currently optioned in Croatia; and Señoras del hampa and El Pueblo are optioned in Poland.

*By Luis Cabrera, Fernando Moreno and Ana Paula Carreira, from Miami, USA

After releasing several hits on multiple platforms, Mediterraneo managed to close a “spectacular” 2024 for its team, as Silvia Cotino, Deputy Director of Mediterráneo Mediaset España, summed up to ttvnews from Content Americas, where the group is presenting two major new releases for the US market.

“The two new releases that Mediterraneo is making available to the US market are two series with a different profile than what we had previously had in our catalogue,” explained the executive.

The first is La Favorita 1922, a Mediaset España series in collaboration with Bambú Producciones. “It’s the first time we’ve collaborated with Bambú, we’re very happy to be partners in this project. We’ve produced two seasons that haven’t aired yet. Each season has eight episodes for broadcast on Mediaset, but we’re making a special edition of 11 episodes per season for the international market.”

“We’ve already closed the first agreements,” revealed the executive, clarifying that they can’t give more details about them yet.

“The second new title is also a different twist to what we usually have in our catalogue, a procedural series called Detective Romi,” continued the executive. “The difference is that Romi is a detective who is deaf. Her deafness is caused by an accident in which her father died. In each self-contained episode, Romi discovers the cases in a very special way due to her disability, and then the general arc is the discovery of how her father died,” she explained.

“Both series will soon be on the air on Mediaset channels,” she added.

“We are very happy,” the executive summed up. “We are very proud of the work we have generated over the last five years. We always have new challenges and the desire to have a good time. We always try to establish innovative models with our partners.”

“We will soon premiere the fourth season of Entrevias on Netflix, we have had successes such as El Marques on Amazon Prime and 12 territories. And we are adding more. That is the intention. To have partners who continue with us and create long-standing relationships,” she concluded.
