Sergio Oslé, Executive Chairman of Grup Mediapro, and Carlos Núñez, CEO, announced today at an internal meeting with the company’s entire workforce that, following several months of reorganization, the group has returned to a path of growth.

The next step is to drive new projects that deliver unique experiences to audiences around the world, funding this growth with more than €100 million the company itself will generate over the next three years. The transformation process will culminate symbolically on January 1, 2027, when Grup Mediapro becomes Imagina.

Over the first few months under new leadership this year, the company reviewed each of its business areas and carried out a restructuring plan that has secured its footing for the future. With that process complete, the company has brought its resources in line with today’s market realities, positioning it to compete and grow again starting this year.

The reorganization has freed up enough capital to fund investment in new projects using the company’s own resources.

Grup Mediapro expects to close out 2026 with EBITDA growth of between 50% and 60% versus 2025, having generated positive cash flow, meaning the company will have already returned to growth this year.

A proven growth engine

The group’s core business areas, which have driven its rise as an international benchmark in the audiovisual sector over three decades, will remain the engine behind the company: audiovisual production services, content creation, sports rights management a nd Brands&Xperiences.

As Oslé and Núñez explained, all four areas will share one goal: delivering standout experiences worldwide, both audiovisual and physical. Leadership has set a clear mandate for each business area: grow its project count and expand into new countries.

With extensive expertise producing high-quality audiovisual content, Grup Mediapro ranks among the top five broadcast services companies in the world. For more than 30 years, it has provided production services to leading international sports organizations, including FIFA, UEFA, Concacaf, CONMEBOL, FIBA and the NBA, operates more than a dozen national leagues and major sporting events such as the European Games and the Pan American Games, and delivers more than 4,000 events a year, averaging 11 events a day worldwide.

The group also boasts a wealth of experience managing sports rights, leading the international commercialization of LALIGA’s broadcast rights (excluding North America, MENA and India) and the top Concacaf competitions through 2030, along with other competitions such as World Skate and the EuroHockey League. In this area, the group is already working to secure new agreements with emerging sports that will open the door to new countries.

The content division leads Spain in hours produced and ranks among the five largest audiovisual producers in Europe. This division is set to remain another key growth engine for the group, built on a track record that combines production capacity, international talent and a growing global footprint with clients including Netflix, Disney, Movistar Plus, RTVE, Prime Video and HBO Max. Growth here means strengthening its position in the Spanish market while ramping up its presence in Spanish-speaking Latin America, where the group already has a strong foothold. It currently generates more than 120 annual projects across film, scripted series and entertainment, and has established itself among the world’s leading Spanish-language content producers.

Mediapro Brands&Xperiences is Grup Mediapro’s unit focused on creating and developing exhibition and museum projects. It also manages the largest advertising inventory in Spanish football and includes a market research department. Mediapro Brands&Xperiences has worked on more than 45 exhibition projects worldwide (the Rafa Nadal Museum, the Barça Immersive Tour, the Torre Latino in Mexico City, the Olympiacos FC Museum in Piraeus, Greece, Unidad: The World’s Game for FIFA at Miami’s Freedom Tower, and more), has organized more than 300 events (the Latin GRAMMY Awards, the opening ceremony of the 2025 Copa del Rey Final, Ithra Cultural Days, and more), and draws more than 5 million visitors a year to its offerings.

Espai Imagina opens September 21

The group’s push into creating, producing and managing next-generation, technology-driven experiential content and formats will find one of its first showcases in Espai Imagina. This new immersive experience center, which Grup Mediapro will unveil on September 21 in Barcelona, is designed to host some of the most innovative cultural and technological projects around.

Its inaugural exhibition, ‘Codi Gaudí, the Never-Before-Seen Experience’, will let visitors discover, for the first time, buildings Antoni Gaudí envisioned but that were never built and the exhibition is scheduled to become a touring experience to travel the world in the coming years.

Imagina: a name from the past, built for the future

Imagina is the new name Grup Mediapro will carry starting January 1, 2027, marking the start of a new chapter for the company. The change revives a name the group has used before across its more than 30-year history, reflecting its intent to look ahead while staying grounded in its past.

On January 19, it was revealed that after more than three years, the National Competition Commission (CNDC) of Argentina resolved that, in order to approve the Disney-Fox merger, the Mickey Mouse company had to present a divestment plan.

In the meantime, Disney had to broadcast two matches per weekend of the Argentine League on broadcast TV, one of which should be the one played by River or Boca.

Less than a month later, and as confirmed by the newspaper Clarín, Disney finally presented its divestment plan, which includes the sale of the three Fox channels to the Spanish group Mediapro.

At the moment, the operation has not been officially announced nor have the details of the agreement been revealed.

This weekend, with the start of the championship, Fox Sports and Turner will begin their broadcasts and, for the time being, they will not transfer any games to broadcast TV.

The channel also has the rights to the Copa Libertadores, which according to the CNDC resolution must also be transferred to broadcast TV until the divestment is completed.

According to Clarín, since the divestment plan has already been presented, the CNDC’s requirement would no longer be valid.

Other sports rights that Mediapro acquires with the purchase are the UEFA Champions League, the American football tournament NFL, the ATP tennis tournament in Córdoba and Formula 1, among others.

In Mexico, and faced with a similar demand, Disney sold Fox Sports Mexico to the Lauman Group, which is already operating the channel. In that country the operation was closed for 300 million dollars.

The Head is a survival thriller set in a polar station in Antarctica, where throughout six 50-minute episodes, directed by Jorge Dorado (El jetty, Mindscape), a suspense plot is unraveled, marked by the dark and long Antarctic months, the cold, the wind and the vast expanses of ice.

The series is part of the collaboration between Ran Tellem (Homeland), director of International Content Development at The Mediapro Studio, and Àlex and David Pastor (Home, Carriers, The Last Days, SELF / LESS), who have defined it as “a claustrophobic thriller with a central mystery”.

The Pastor brothers are also the authors of the script, along with Isaac Sastre.

The Head is one of the great bets of The Mediapro Studio, one of its most ambitious international projects due to the scope of its production and for having already guaranteed its worldwide distribution with the presence of Hulu Japan and HBO Asia.

The series took its first steps at the Series Mania 2017 international forum, where it was presented in a session to select projects that aroused enormous interest among representatives of the audiovisual sector.

The fiction has an important display of media, unusual in Spanish productions, such as the two-thousand-square-meter set in Tenerife, where the set of the scientific station where most of the action takes place, the Polaris VI, was built.

The production also traveled to Iceland to shoot the series’ exteriors in its rugged landscapes, although most of its plot takes place inside the polar station, which provides a particular touch of encapsulation.

Another of The Head’s great assets is its international cast that includes, among others, John Lynch (The Terror), Katharine O’Donnelly (Mary, Queen of Scotland), Tomohisa Yamashita (Code Blue), Alexandre Willaume (Bajo la superficie, Tomb Raider), Laura Bach (Sprinter Galore), Sandra Andreis (Millennium: Los hombres que no amaban a las mujeres), Amelia Hoy (Killing Eve), Chris Reilly (Aliados, Everest), Richard Sammel (Malditos bastardos) y Tom Lawrence (The King, The Crown), además de la colaboración especial de Álvaro Morte (Money Heist, The Pier) and Mònica López (Hierro, En la ciudad).

SYNOPSIS

Winter has reached the South Pole. The sun will soon disappear for the next six months. A small team, known as the Winterers, will remain at the Polaris VI Antarctic Research Station to continue their innovative research, key in the fight against climate change, under the command of renowned biologist Arthur Wilde (John Lynch).

But when spring comes and summer commander Johan Berg (Alexander Willaume) returns to the station, all team members are dead or missing. An assassin is on the loose and Annika (Laura Bach), Johan’s wife, is missing. If he wants to find her alive, he will have to trust Maggie (Katharine O’Donnelly), the young and shocked doctor, apparently the only survivor of the group… or is there someone else?

The Brazilian production company Boutique Filmes, located in São Paulo, reinforces its strategy to reach a global audience with the announcement of their new dystopic thriller project, To Kill a Queen, at the 10th edition of the NATPE Miami on January 24th, being the first market that the new production will be presented.

As part of the producer international expansion plan, Boutique Filmes formed a partnership with one of the biggest entertainment groups of the world, THE MEDIAPRO STUDIO, to co-produce a new dramaturgy premium series.

The show will have eight episodes, with one hour of duration each. To Kill a Queen was inspired by the Brazilian beauty pageants that occurred in the 1950s, where the women were (even more than today) exclusives symbols of maternity and matrimony. “With the advance of conservatism around the world, especially in Brazil, nothing would be more original than create a futuristic reality inspired by retrograde values from the past” explained Ram Tellem, head of international content development of The Mediapro Studio.

“Our bet is that on the current international market we’ll be able to create emotional connections with the public of many countries, even if the series is not spoken in the English language. Being associated with THE MEDIAPRO STUDIO on this project says a lot about our intention of having international creative collaborations, search for financing out of Brazil and keep the rights of the shows we create”, says Gustavo Mello, executive producer of the new series and company partner of Boutique.

The Boutique has been recognized for productions of dystopian sci-fi, such as 3% and the recent Onisciente, which premieres on January 29th on Netflix, reaching 190 countries. With this perception, the producer decided to explore this genre even more, but now showing a soft kind of dystopia, since the story is set in 2025. “The dystopian genre is one of the most popular on other territories and connects easily with the audience because shows contradictions and dilemmas of the present”, Mello completes.

To Kill a Queen gets into the international projects currently on going at THE MEDIAPRO STUDIO, whose strategy of creating, producing and distributing high quality entertainment content to global audiences, include this year among others the thriller The Head, the drama thriller The Paradise, co-produced with the Finnish chain YLE, The New Pope, the series by Paolo Sorrentino, recently premiered worldwide; or the projects developed in US and Latin America, which also include The internationals, Las Bravas F.C., Victoria Small or El Acantilado.

Synopses

In a country full of moralism, Diana, a former legendary beauty pageant star, needs to leave her life as a free spirit behind, become the redeemed lady and surrender herself to the pink prison of Miss Brazil 2025 contest in managed to stay alive.

Concentrated in an apparent idyllic setting of beauty contest, with a futuristic retro look, To Kill a Queen shows the evilest and abusive backstage events of this universe full of mascara, bodices and embroidery. With her natural ability to uncover the dark side of people, Diana understands that this glamorous competition hides a moralist plan that intends to make all the women being obedient, beautiful and modest housewives. Even locked up in this world, she needs to find a way to destroy this plan, before she becomes the star of this bizarre Feminine Revolution.
