Audiovisual from Spain, the umbrella brand of ICEX Spain Trade & Investment for the international promotion of the Spanish screen sector, will once again have a dual presence at Mipcom Cannes 2026, which takes place from 12 to 15 October at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes (France).

The Spanish delegation will therefore combine its usual stand for exhibitors in Riviera 7 (booth R7.J11) and an exclusive area within the MIP Creative Hub, with the aim of promoting co-production, financing and the formation of international partnerships. With an estimated 11,000 participants and over 3,300 buyers, Mipcom Cannes stands as one of the world’s leading meeting places for content distribution.

A programme to connect the Spanish screen sector with the international market

The programme of activities organised by Audiovisual from Spain kicks off on Tuesday 13th with the presentation of the research from Spanish consultancy firm GECA, “Spanish Fiction 2026: between new stories and new seasons”, which will take place at the ICEX area within the MIP Creative Hub at 10.30 am. The session will feature Gloria Saló, Director of Content and Production Consultancy at GECA, who will analyse how the blurring of genre boundaries and thematic hybridisation have given rise to scripted productions featuring unique new narratives, whilst returning seasons of consolidated series demonstrate the value and success of existing IPs.

The following day, from 9.30 am to 10.30 am, the same venue will host a Canada–Spain co-production meeting. The initiative will take the form of one-to-one matchmaking, bringing together Spanish and Canadian production companies with projects of any genre and format interested in exploring real opportunities for international collaboration and co-production. The Canadian delegation comprises the companies ATO Média, Big Bad Boo Studios, Groupe Fair-Play, Reign Films, Rezolution Pictures and Vérité Films, whilst the Spanish side is represented by Honestree Island, Hurí TV, Morgana Studios and Vértigo Films.

This meeting takes on particular significance following the recent signing, at the Toronto International Film Festival, of the new Audiovisual Co-production Treaty between Spain and Canada, which replaces the bilateral framework in force since 1985. This new agreement broadens the concept of co-production to include cinematographic, television and video works, regardless of their length or genre, and also allows for the participation of producers from third countries.

This bilateral initiative comes on the heels of a year of particularly close ties between the media industries of both countries, as Spain was the Country of Honour at the 2026 Banff World Media Festival, held last June in Canada. Furthermore, as part of the aforementioned festival, the original atresplayer series Mariliendre (produced by Suma Content) received the Rockie Award for Best Non-English Language Comedy Series, further boosting the international visibility of Spanish audiovisual content in the North American market.

The Spanish programme at Cannes will conclude on Wednesday 14th from 5.00 pm to 6.00 pm with The Audiovisual from Spain Networking Event, an informal gathering to be held at the main stand (R7.J11) aimed at partners and clients of Spanish companies. The aim of this networking event is to establish and strengthen professional relationships with Spanish companies, whilst the latest Spanish content launched during the market will be screened.

With this agenda, Audiovisual from Spain once again places Spanish talent, companies and content at the heart of one of the audiovisual industry’s leading international markets, capitalising on Mipcom’s global reach to facilitate new business connections and expand collaboration opportunities for the Spanish sector.

Major Spanish presence on the Croisette

The Audiovisual from Spain delegation will comprise around 50 companies and organisations representing the diversity of the national tv content ecosystem, including distributors, production companies, service providers and other national players. The exhibition and meeting spaces in the Spanish pavilion will therefore host Amuse, Anafilms Productions, Ártico Distribution, Asymmetric Studios, B·Water Animation Studios, Brands & Rights 360, Deep Com Roots, Echo Post House, El Reino Infantil, Event CONECTA, Filmax, Go Global, Green Screen, Honestree Island, Hurí TV, IMACO89, Krakatoa, Lilicar Films, MODFIE, Morgana Studios, Onza Distribution, Plano a Plano, RCAudio, Secuoya Studios, Squirrel Media, Vértigo Films, Video Mercury Films and Wild Stories Distribution; as well as the rights management organisation EGEDA and the public bodies Canary Islands Film and Canarias ZEC.

Other companies also visiting Cannes registered under Audiovisual from Spain include Arait Multimedia, Atomis Media, Boomerang TV, Boxfish TV, Brisa Media, Divisa Films, Ficción Producciones, Galerna Content, Gigglebug, M International Audiovisual, MAD sonido, MBC Content, Televisión de Galicia and You First Originals | Gersh.

The Spanish presence at Mipcom is rounded off by the independent stands of Arena Pro, Atresmedia Sales, DeAPlaneta Entertainment, Liquid Rock, Motion Pictures, Movistar Plus International, RTVE Commercial and The Mediapro Studio; as well as the regional umbrella organisations Basque.Audiovisual. and Catalan Films.

Produced by Luis Cabrera and Ana Paula Carreira, from Miami

Continuing its tradition from previous years, Audiovisual from Spain organized its traditional Spain Pavilion for this year’s Content Americas, where Spanish companies are exhibiting the latest from their audiovisual catalogs.

The companies present in the pavilion are Arait Multimedia, Atresmedia, Feelsales, Filmax, Grupo adm, Mediterráneo, Motion Pictures, and Onza Distribution.

Furthermore, on January 21, the organization presented the special session “Spain Upfront: Best of Spain’s new content”, where Spain was highlighted as one of the leading European production hubs for global streaming platforms (Netflix, Prime Video, MAX) and one of the most consistent content providers for the industry’s major players.

Participants in the session included Silvia Cotino (Deputy Director of Sales and Business Development at Mediterráneo), Miguel García (Sales Director at Atresmedia Sales), Carlos Garde (General Manager at Onza), Rosalia Alcubilla (Head of Global Clients at RTVE), and Gloria Saló (Director of Content and Production Consultancy at GECA).

The session began with remarks from Javier Yraola, Director of Projects at Invest in Spain and advisor to ICEX, who emphasized investment in production in Spain. “Spain launched an ambitious plan, the Spain Audiovisual Hub, with a budget of €1.6 billion, which has greatly helped the industry develop. For example, employment in the sector has doubled, Spain is a leader in original content on European platforms, and nine out of ten of the most-watched series on platforms are Spanish.”

“This plan has been reinforced with €1.7 billion in financial instruments aimed at providing greater stability for new companies in the sector,” he added.

Gloria Saló reinforced this idea by presenting data on the growth of Spanish fiction, obtained by GECA, revealing that Spain is the third country in Europe in terms of absolute premieres, with 70, behind the United Kingdom and France. In Latin America, only Mexico surpasses it.

To demonstrate this strength, the session moved on to the presentation of some of the most successful Spanish-made fiction series and productions of recent months, beginning with Barrio Esperanza, presented by Rosalía Alcubilla of RTVE, who described it as “a fiction with an optimistic tone and very easily adaptable.”

Produced in collaboration with Globomedia (The Mediapro Studio), Barrio Esperanza was created by Iván Escobar and Antonio Sánchez Olivas. Set in a school, it is a social comedy with sharp humor for all audiences, starring Mariona Terés and an ensemble cast. With a vital and camaraderie-filled tone, it highlights the importance of public education and second chances.

Carlos Garde, from Onza Producciones, presented the series Atasco, produced in collaboration with Prime Video and Publicis Rebellion. Following the success of its first three seasons, the executive revealed that the series will return for a fourth and fifth season and will also be adapted in Italy, with the goal of achieving adaptations in Latin America as well.

The executive also highlighted the success of the format El Desafío, which continues to lead in viewership in Spain on Antena 3, where it premiered its sixth season this January.

In its turn to present, Mediterráneo, which entered the market with a slate of successful dramas, highlighted, of course, its period drama, La Favorita 1922, produced by Mediaset España in collaboration with Bambú Producciones, which has been a true success both in Spain and internationally.

“Prior to its premiere, we had already secured distribution in more than 20 territories, and it is currently available in 71,” said Silvia Cotiño, referring to the agreement signed with HBO Max in Latin America last October, which brought the series to the entire region.

Along with La Favorita 1922, the group also presented La agencia, a local adaptation of the series Call My Agent!; and Pura Sangre, its major new offering for this Content Americas market. Described by Cotiño as “the Spanish Yellowstone,” and produced in collaboration with Shine Iberia (Banijay Iberia), Pura Sangre is an intense ensemble drama that combines family conflicts, romance, thriller, and mystery at the heart of a powerful aristocratic saga, with a rural and equestrian setting as its backdrop and a criminal investigation as the catalyst for all its storylines.

Atresmedia, for its part, also presented one of its biggest hits: Las hijas de la criada, which premiered last December on Atresplayer, becoming the platform’s best premiere in the last three years.

The group also presented Padre no hay más que uno, a new series produced by Bowfinger International Pictures in association with Sony Pictures International Productions, with the participation of Prime Video and Atresmedia, which will premiere on Prime Video on February 6. It is described as “a hilarious comedy, full of family chaos, wacky situations, and heartwarming moments.”

To close, Hugo Serra, CEO of Conunpack International Sales, presented the films Un año y un día and Papeles (The Panama Papers), a co-production between Spain, Panama, and Uruguay.

Just a month after Spain’s recognition as Country of Honor at the latest edition of Mipcom, December marks a dual showcase for Spanish companies at Asia TV Forum & Market and Content London.

Content London, one of the world’s leading development markets and conferences, will take place from December 3 to 5, bringing together nearly 3,000 content executives. The event spans five venues and includes a development marketplace, conferences, screenings, networking events, lunches, cocktails, and parties.

Among the Spanish companies attending in London next week are Buendía Estudios, Cattleya Producciones, Ficción Producciones, Grup Mediapro, Movistar Plus+ International, Scenic Rights, Secuoya Studios, Telson/Tres60, The Mediapro Studio, Vértice 360, and Zeta Audiovisual.

The conference program will also feature prominent Spanish executives, including Beatriz Campos, CEO of Anonymous Content Spain. In her session, she will discuss the creation of joint ventures on a global scale, highlight the company’s international presence, and explore opportunities for developing new local and global content.

Additionally, during the session “Skin In The Game: Why Content Majors Are Investing in Football”, Pilar Blasco, CEO of Banijay Iberia, will speak about the company’s venture into content production through the creation of a studio to monetize stories emerging from LaLiga’s football division in Spain.

The Audiovisual from Spain pavilion will showcase the Spanish delegation at the Asia TV Forum, which will take place at Singapore’s Marina Bay Sands Hotel from December 3 to 6.

This delegation includes Brands & Rights 360, Mediterráneo – Mediaset España Group, Movistar Plus+ International, Onza Distribution, RTVE, and The Mediapro Studio.

Regarding distribution highlights, Asia TV Forum & Market will feature premieres such as La Favorita from Mediterráneo – Mediaset España Group, The New Years distributed by Movistar Plus+ International, Iberia & Savannah: One Wildlife from Onza Distribution’s catalog, ENA by RTVE, and Quiet by The Mediapro Studio.

Furthermore, ICEX will support the ATF x TTB Animation Lab & Pitch 2024, an initiative to foster European and Asian animation projects targeting young and family audiences. The program promotes financing and co-production opportunities, and this year, the animated series All Good by Spanish studio Glow has been selected as a finalist.

In its inaugural edition in 2023, the Lab included the animated feature film Musgo, produced by Jordi B. Oliva under the Imagic TV label.

That same year, El Violinista was celebrated as a milestone in Spain-Singapore collaboration. The project was spearheaded by Spanish producer TV ON and Singapore’s Robot Playground and co-directed by acclaimed filmmaker Raúl García, a Goya Award winner as co-director of The Missing Lynx.

Shooting in Spain, the ICEX-Invest in Spain brand to promote the attraction of foreign filming and investment in the media sector to Spain, is facing the last quarter of the year with an intense work schedule that includes attending and organizing activities in almost a dozen markets and festivals around the world, where it will continue to promote the Spanish audiovisual sector and establish contact with potential investors.

After attending the Toronto and San Sebastian International Film Festivals last month, with the participation of ICEX-Invest in Spain representatives in various presentations and panels, Shooting in Spain will also be present next week at Iberseries & Platino Industria (Madrid, 1 to 4 October).

During the event, in addition to participating in the Financing Breakfast held during the US Day, which seeks to promote networking with US financial funds, the new Foreign Project Management Director at ICEX-Invest in Spain, Vanesa Álvarez, will take part in a specific panel on tax incentives organized by FIPCA (Ibero-American Federation of Film and Audiovisual Producers).

At the end of this month, the Shooting in Spain team will attend Mipcom (Cannes, 21 to 24 October), the world’s largest market dedicated to television content, to complement the extensive program of activities that will celebrate Spain as Country of Honor at this year’s edition.

Among the main initiatives of ICEX-Invest in Spain, three daily sessions have been organized for international producers and commissioners to provide first-hand information about the Spain Audiovisual Bureau, the one-stop shop for all inquiries from foreign companies interested in filming or opening their headquarters in Spain.

Furthermore, it will co-organize in collaboration with Audiovisual from Spain the panel ‘Spain: Igniting Global Hits – The Ultimate Audiovisual Hub’ (Tuesday 22nd at 9:45am in the Producers’ Hub) which will mainly address aspects of financing and tax incentives through the production models of two upcoming international dramas.

Weiss & Morales, a Spanish-German co-production, with the participation of Nina Hernández, head of content of Portocabo, and a spokesperson from ZDF Studios; and the French series Zorro, with the participation of Marc Dujardin, producer of Le Collectif 64, and Mike Villanueva, representative of the Castilla-La Mancha Film Commission. The latter, co-produced by France Télévisions and Paramount+, premiered on 6 September in France, Italy, and the United Kingdom, and is an outstanding example of international filming in Spain. This double case study will be moderated by Nekesa Mumbi Moody, co-editor-in-chief of The Hollywood Reporter.

Elisa García Grande, executive director of ICEX-Invest in Spain, will share a discussion panel with international executives to talk about Financing and Co-production in the talks organized during Mipcom by the British media and podcast TellyCast, and will attend various small-group encounters with the international media gathered in Cannes.

Opening of Antennas to support the sector in the US and Asia

In recent months, ICEX-Invest in Spain has set up support antennas in Los Angeles and Singapore to carry out various research and consultancy tasks and to improve the positioning of Spanish companies and talent in the United States and Asia, priority markets for the internationalization of the Spanish audiovisual industry.

As part of its mission, the Singapore antenna is already coordinating Shooting in Spain’s participation in the Busan International Film Festival (2 to 11 October), a Korean event it is attending for the first time to explain why Spain can be a strategic partner for Korean producers. It is also attending Gamescom Asia (Singapore, 17 to 20 October), the satellite event for Southeast Asia organised by the renowned video game fair Gamescom.

On the other hand, the Los Angeles antenna is preparing an exclusive networking event before LocationEXPO (Las Vegas, 5 to 10 November). Entitled “Spain in Hollywood”, the meeting will feature the flavor of Spanish gastronomy and wines. It will bring together senior executives from American majors and studios with Spanish producers from the leading service and post-production companies.

The evening, scheduled for the afternoon of 4 November, will be hosted by the Consul of Spain in Los Angeles and the Economic and Commercial Counselor of Spain in Los Angeles.

Launch of the Who is Who Shooting in Spain Guide 2025-2026

Just before the end of the year, Shooting in Spain will travel to the UK to once again attend Focus (London, 10 to 11 December), the forum par excellence for the international production services community. On the eve of the event, ICEX-Invest in Spain will organize a Shooting in Spain networking activity in London, which will bring together Spanish service production companies and foreign producers interested in filming in Spain.

The London event will also host the launch of the new edition of the Who is Who Shooting in Spain 2025-2026 Guide, the long-awaited update of this directory that brings together Spanish companies specializing in providing services for international shoots. Shooting in Spain will also have a stand in the Focus exhibition space, where its team will provide information on opportunities to produce and set up in Spain and on the Spain Audiovisual Bureau as a one-stop shop for channeling all inquiries about the Spanish media industry.

Q4 2024: new campaign under the claim “Making it easy for you”

Underpinning the visual development that will accompany all Shooting in Spain activities during this fourth quarter, the promotional brand will be accompanied by two new artworks that highlight the essence of the claim used throughout this year, “Making it easy for you.”

The first of these uses the metaphor of a lighthouse that illuminates and facilitates the way in the dark, using a night photograph of the Formentor lighthouse (in Mallorca);. In contrast, the second reproduces the aesthetics of the credits of a film to highlight some international productions, both series and feature films, which have been shot in Spain in recent years.
