By Luis Cabrera and Ana Paula Carreira, from Miami, USA

The closing of Content Americas 2026, a celebratory affair thanks to the WAWA Woman of the Year award -which honored Beatriz Cea Okan of Inter Medya- was a fitting end for a regional audiovisual industry determined not to wait for the world to change, but rather to build a better reality with its own efforts and creativity in this year that has just begun.

There is much of this behind the desire for vertical content to replicate in Latin America what it achieves at a billion-dollar rate in Asia. Companies like Canal 13, TVN, VIP 2000, Atresmedia, and now even Netflix are betting on a formula that will generate a larger and better industry.

Of course, the foundation remains the production of high-quality, premium content, titles like Atresmedia Sales’ Las hijas de la criada, which also presented the comedy Padre no hay más que uno in Miami.

In a similar vein, RTVE brought to market a feel-good title like Barrio Esperanza, whose story doesn’t shy away from important issues in our current societies, but does so with humor and a powerful message.

In Latin America, Peru shone at the Hilton Miami Downtown, where feature films like No tan viuda and Amando a Amanda were presented.

OWNERS OF THEIR SPACE

Turkish dramas have carved out their niche in regional programming schedules, a niche they don’t intend to relinquish with their fresh, high-quality productions.

This is the case with OGM Universe, which brought the Turkish season’s big new hit, Deep in Love, to the market, and Mediahub, which has found great success with its first production, Bitter Justice.

Of course, Latin American giants like Globo are putting up a fierce fight in the melodrama arena. Following the success of Vale Tudo, Globo has strung together another hit with Tres Gracias.

Record, which is also heavily investing in Turkish content, as is the case with I Am Mother from Eccho Rights, traveled to Miami with a major success from its library, now remastered: The Slave Isaura.

Atresmedia Sales, meanwhile, is confident it will find a place for its hit telenovela, the daily Sueños de Libertad (Dreams of Freedom), one of the biggest successes on Spanish TV in recent years.

Producing with Intelligence

Wisdom-based partnerships are key in today’s industry, as Nadav Palti, president and CEO of Dori Media Group, says. Creativity must be present not only in the content but also in the business model, as they demonstrated in Peru with The Auction.

The important thing, agreed Darío Turovelzky, CEO of Telefe, during his participation in the event, is to work towards clear strategies and inspire, with the optimism that characterizes the Argentine executive, an industry that must look to the future and leave the past behind.

Produced by Luis Cabrera and Ana Paula Carreira, from Miami

Atresmedia Sales presented two major new titles during Content Americas: its latest hit, Las hijas de la criada, and the family comedy Padre, no hay más que uno. Both are strong bets from the company’s international sales team, which also continues to push telenovelas like Sueños de libertad, a record-breaking success in Spain that has proven to resonate strongly with Latin American audiences.

Miguel García, Director of International Sales at Atresmedia Sales, shared the news with ttvnews. “We’re thrilled to be back at Content Americas. This year, we’re presenting two new titles we’re extremely proud of. On one hand, Las hijas de la criada, which has been the latest hit from Atresmedia Productions. The audience numbers and performance after its launch on Atresplayer exceeded all the records we had on the platform in the last quarter. We’re thrilled with the series, which will soon move on, as an exclusive title, to air on Antena 3,” he said.

Las hijas de la criada is the television adaptation of the bestselling novel by Sonsoles Ónega, winner of the 2023 Premio Planeta. It’s a gripping telenovela set in Galicia in the early 1900s, centered on a family that made its fortune in Cuba at the end of the 19th century and now runs its businesses in Galicia.

“It’s a very intense novela, with eight 50-minute episodes, and I’m convinced it will work perfectly in Latin America. We’ve already received interest from several players and channels. On the other hand, we’re also bringing a family comedy. It’s been a while since we brought a comedy like this, one that can bring the whole family together in front of the TV,” García added.

Padre no hay más que uno, the series, consists of two episodes and is produced by Bowfinger International Pictures and Sony Pictures for Atresmedia and Amazon Prime Video. It tells the story of a family with five children who, due to a new job the mother takes, are forced to move to another city and will do everything they can to return to their hometown, where their friends and school are.

“Beyond that, we continue to push Sueños de libertad, our daily telenovela, which already has more than 400 episodes and is halfway through its second season. It remains the most-watched daily fiction in Spain, day after day, nonstop since 2024. While it’s running on HBO Max in Latin America, we’re still looking for opportunities on free-to-air television so broadcasters can take a chance on a Spanish telenovela that I’m sure will perform extremely well. We know Latin American audiences enjoy Spanish telenovelas, and proof of that is the success our series are having on platforms,” said the Atresmedia international sales executive.

More vertical series in 2026

Regarding vertical content, García said they are very pleased with the performance of their first vertical series. “Atresmedia is once again a pioneer in content, new genres, and bold bets. We produced the first vertical series in Spain, Una novia por Navidad, which we launched last December. Honestly, its performance exceeded all our expectations. We’re extremely happy and I can already confirm that there will be more Atresmedia vertical series in 2026. They’re already in production, and we’ll likely complement them with the acquisition of a vertical series from another player as well,” the executive concluded.

Zeppelin Studio, the production company of Lucas Jinkis (Bilardo, Nahir, Dias De Gallos, Barreda, Pepita, among others), closed several collaboration agreements at the Content Americas market.

These include projects in partnership with:

TIS Producciones of Colombia (Paramount) for the filming of a movie in Bogotá and the development of a new fiction series.

A deal with Pampa Films for international sales.

A co-production for the filming of a remake with Elefantec Global and Fox Entertainment Studios.

A collaboration agreement with Black Sheep (who have a first-look deal with Secuoya Studios in Spain).

The production of a documentary with Mercado de Contenidos.

A pre-agreement with Dori Media for the development and future co-production of one of their franchises, along with the distribution of one of Zeppelin Studio’s films.

In addition, discussions are underway with the production company 3Pas Studios, HBO Max, Amazon Prime, and Flow to develop new projects.

In this regard, Lucas Jinkis states: “Content Americas is a great event for understanding the pulse of the industry. The major challenge ahead involves finding collaborative models. The business is changing once again: we’re going to see series that coexist across different platforms (streaming and linear), films that will exist on platforms, linear channels, and in theaters, and feature film projects that will be produced without pre-sales using private funding, while the trend is toward strengthening licensing. Therefore, we need to be creative and join forces among production companies. The industry will be defined by the era of CO: co-production, collaboration, and co-financing.”

Produced by Luis Cabrera and Ana Paula Carreira, from Miami

Under the original title Taşacak Bu Deniz, Deep in Love was one of last year’s biggest hits on Turkish TV. The drama, an OGM Pictures production for TRT 1, reached number one in the Friday primetime ratings late last year and stayed on top for several consecutive weeks.

“We’re very happy of course with the success of Deep in Love, not only locally but internationally”, said Ekin Koyuncu Karaman, Director of Global Distribution and Partnerships at OGM Universe. “So far our sales are very strong, not only Latam but also Russia, CIS, Middle East, Central Eastern Europe”.

“Each week the title is growing on TV but also on YouTube, with an average of 30 million views worldwide. It’s making us very proud. It’s a very unique title”, she added.

Created by Ayşe Ferda Eryılmaz and Nehir Erdem, and directed by Çağrı Bayrak, Deep in Love stars Ulaş Tuna Astepe, Deniz Baysal, Burak Yörük, and Ava Z. Yaman in a story that blends the mythical and the modern.

In the drama, Adil Koçari, the proud mountain leader, returns to reclaim the land and the love he lost, but a single shot from Esme Furtuna should have ended it all. Instead, everything begins anew. Their forbidden love unleashes a storm of revenge and desire, echoing an ancient legend in which the mountain and the sea can never touch, but never stop searching for each other.

“It takes place in the Black Sea with breathtaking views. It’s a beautiful production, very pleasant to watch. Very dynamic, with great balance between love, revenge and action. A true Romeo and Juliet story, an impossible love story”, she explained.

Another big title that OGM Universe is presenting to buyers from Latam is Reborn, which premiered in the second half of 2025 with notable ratings on Star TV, and despite its short run, stands as an excellent option for buyers in the region.

“Reborn was unfortunately cut short in Turkey. Sometimes it happens and we had to end the series with a very strong ending on the 13th episode. We are licensing with 42 commercial hours and we licensed it very recently to Ecuador, because we really believed in the cast and we really believed in the storyline. And it actually proved itself. It’s ranking in top two, sometimes number one, sometimes number two in the country. And it’s making us super proud,” she said.

“I think it’s going to set a great example for the rest of the territory. And other than that, we just closed a deal in English-speaking US for the title, for the first time. Cast has a big part of this decision”, she added.

Produced by Onur Güvenatam, directed by Burcu Alptekin, and written by Deniz Dargı, Cem Görgeç, and Mevsim Yenice, the series combines a captivating narrative with cinematic visuals and emotional intensity. At its core is a powerful cast: the chemistry between Kerem Bürsin and Lizge Cömert has been widely praised, while Sibel Taşçıoğlu and Deniz Çakır deliver outstanding performances alongside a rich supporting cast.

“Kerem Bursin and Liz Gecemert, they’re both amazing. Sibel Tascioğlu, who we know from One Love, another great series, is great as well. Therefore, with the cast, the storyline and the ending, everything is there and the production value is top-notch. I believe we will see Reborn in more screens in Latin America very soon”, she anticipated.

In regards to the Latin American market, the executive believes there’s still potential and room for many more Turkish stories, as long as the quality is there.

“The market is active right now. Some territories are focusing on local productions and non-scripted formats. But there are so many opportunities all around,” she said. “Right now, Brazil is very active. Peru, US, Panama, Ecuador, many, many territories, they have very strong Turkish slots going for them. I think they’re coming back to looking at the stories more”.

“Now the stories matter. Ratings matter, yes, but everybody is after good stories. And that’s why I feel really lucky because as OGM Pictures, we’re always the production side. They’re always focusing on the human touch, always focusing on the real stories, real feelings that everyone globally can relate to our stories”.

“So therefore, for us, we’re very happy with the outcome of this market. And also how we are monetizing our content in Latin America and how we’re expanding gradually in Latin America. We’re very, very happy and proud”, she concluded.

Produced by Luis Cabrera and Ana Paula Carreira, from Miami

Brazil’s largest media group and one of the most recognized in all of Latin America, Globo always makes its mark in international markets with a vast catalog that never arrives at an event without major premieres.

“This year we have some new offerings,” Regiane Marcilio, Globo’s Content Distribution & Partnerships Executive, told ttvnews during the current edition of Content Americas in Miami. “Sometimes we launch more formats, sometimes more original programming, or more series; but we always manage to build a very large, extensive, and diversified portfolio for our partners,” she added.

“The idea is for Globo to be a partner they can always count on,” she summarized.

“From telenovelas and series to unscripted programming and scripted formats, which are now gaining momentum, as we revealed in our showcase. It’s a business that’s bringing us increasing growth, and we’re very pleased with these results,” the executive said, referring to their presentation last Tuesday, in which they announced an alliance with MFF&CO to adapt three Brazilian dramas for the US.

“These are three titles we’re launching with a strong focus on the English-speaking market, which is a market we’ve been working on for some time. So now we’re starting to see some of the results,” the executive said.

And to further leave its mark at Content Americas, Globo presented a major premiere in the Miami market: Três Graças (Three Graces), “our super prime-time launch,” said the executive.

“Three Graces arrived with the great responsibility of replacing Anything Goes, which has already been a huge success. And we are very happy with the results. The audience is completely hooked,” she revealed.

“It’s a story that you can’t help but be passionate about. It features three strong women who form this trio, who will fight hard for justice, to do good for society, and face great challenges,” she explained. “We are seeing, with the audience ratings and on social media, that the public is in love with the story and the protagonists. And we at Globo are also very happy. It’s our super launch this year, and I assure you it’s a story that will captivate the entire Latin American audience.”

Three Graces is also “Globo’s return to classic melodramas,” said the executive, a message they’ve been emphasizing since MIP Cancún. “Why do we say this? Because these are shows that have all the elements of the great hits we’ve had in Globo’s history, and even the great hits we see from other distributors. These elements are all present in some way in both Anything Goes and Three Graces. We’re very happy.”

In addition to Three Graces, Globo launched Dueña de mí, a telenovela that recently finished airing in Brazil. It tells the story of Leona, a woman who suffers a miscarriage and develops a mother-daughter relationship with a girl she works for. “It’s also a very beautiful story, very well-suited to the market.”

Alongside these major dramas, the executive highlighted Globo’s commitment to micro-dramas, “which is a new concept, but it’s something that’s already being discussed in the market,” she explained. “Globo is going to be very focused on this style of microdrama, shared and divided into several different formats. There are original microdramas that we’re going to launch, which are never-before-seen stories, created specifically for this model from scratch. There are other models that feature characters who were in a telenovela, and we create a specific microdrama about that character. And there are also models where, with a character who has been iconic in a show, Globo creates another story with that same character. It’s a new story, but about someone already known to the public.”

“We’ve already launched one, which is on Globo’s social media. And there are other titles that will be launched under the Globoplay subscription model,” she explained.

“It’s something very new that Globo has just started working on. We’re going to study all kinds of business opportunities that can arise for this model, whether it’s selling canned content or another type of business. We’re open to understanding the customer’s needs and trying to adapt them within Globo.”

“We’ve already launched one, which is on Globo’s social media. And there are other titles that will be released under the Globoplay subscription model.”

“It’s something very new that Globo has just started working on. We’re going to study all kinds of business opportunities that can arise for this model, whether it’s selling canned content or another type of business. We’re open to understanding what the customer’s needs are and trying to adapt them within Globo.”

“We’re going to explore all kinds of business opportunities that can arise for this model. For Latin America, we’re always in discussions about formats as well. There are many Globo titles available for adaptation. And the ideal here is to understand the client’s needs so we can then offer the title that we believe best fits what they’re looking for. Globo is an ideal partner for the region. It’s basically one of the largest content producers in Latin America. I think that in this sense, in this market, everyone recognizes the Globo brand.”

“I think we’re experiencing a very good moment right now, not only at Globo, but for Brazilian content in general. And Globo embodies this Brazilian essence. In Latin America, we’re very happy that clients are already seeing this in Globo, that they recognize us in this model,” she concluded.

Pons also highlighted that another returning franchise is Sin Senos Hay Paraíso, and the upcoming premiere of Lobo, morir matando, an original production arriving with high expectations.

Produced by Luis Cabrera and Ana Paula Carreira, from Miami

Telemundo Studios announced that El Señor de los Cielos will return in 2026 with a tenth season, aiming to honor the fandom of the longest-running Spanish-language series in the market. Production will begin in two months, and it stands as the main highlight from NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises as the company prepares for a year packed with original productions and a strong focus on IP development.

This was shared by Javier Pons, CCO of NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises and Head of Telemundo Studios, in an interview with ttvnews. “We’re doubling down on moving forward. Original IP is the foundation of our growth. The big news for 2026 is the return of El Señor de los Cielos. We’re bringing Rafa Amaya back, returning to the Telemundo screen after a two-year break,” he said.

The executive recalled that the franchise had a spin-off, which served as a kind of transition period, and now Amaya returns as an executive producer. “It’s a way to honor that huge fandom. We have to remember that El Señor de los Cielos is currently the longest-running Spanish-language series in the market. We’ll start production in a couple of months.”

Telemundo Studios is preparing for a busy year in original production and new developments. Pons noted that another returning franchise is Sin Senos Hay Paraíso. “It’s a co-production with Disney that we’re doing with our partners at TIS in Colombia. We have the original cast, and we’ll see if the audience’s wish for Catalina Santana and El Titi to finally reunite comes true.”

Lobo among the key premieres

In three to four weeks, the company will premiere Lobo, morir matando, an original production. “We’re very happy with this project. It’s the next one to premiere, and it’s still shooting, with the final weeks in Mexico. It’s an adaptation of a novel by a hugely successful Mexican author. It stars a wonderful young girl who’s going to captivate the audience,” Pons said.

It’s the story of a lone wolf who becomes the leader of the pack, the story of a solitary person disillusioned with love. It’s a fast-paced story in which a young girl hides a secret. “It’s 80 episodes that we’ll air in primetime starting in February. We hope it’s equally successful on both Telemundo and Peacock, which will be the first release windows,” Pons added.

Productions in the pipeline

Pons said they are also shooting a medical drama this year, filmed at Telemundo facilities as an original production. “It will be a drama set in a hospital emergency room in the United States, but in an area with a strong Hispanic presence. We want to address not only medical issues, but above all the lives of young doctors.”

“We’re developing a legal drama for 2027–28, and there are more projects on the way. Conspiração Filmes announced yesterday our partnership to adapt one of their very successful Brazilian series. In Brazil it was called Uno contra todos, and we’re developing an adaptation,” he noted.

Telemundo at the movies

The executive mentioned that their first experience was Las Tías, which aired on Halloween on Telemundo with great success. “That was really the first original movie we produced in-house. This year we’ve expanded a bit, entering into a co-production with Cinépolis and Mediapro.”

He also announced Atrápelo quien pueda, a film starring Jaime Camil, which will be released in theaters and on Telemundo. “And we expect it to travel well, because it’s a great romantic comedy, with Jaime delivering a wonderful performance, along with the rest of the cast. It’s an example of the kind of bets Telemundo Studios is making. The film is currently in post-production and will hit theaters in about two or three months,” Pons explained.

Mi Vida Ideal is also an original film that will be shot at Telemundo Center studios in Miami. “It’s a holiday season film, a Christmas, feel-good movie. It will be for the Telemundo screen and platforms. It’s confirmed, and we have a couple more that we’re negotiating to shoot this year and early next year.”

Microdramas and new trends

The executive spoke about productions with VIP 2000. “At the end of the year, we produced four short miniseries, short-form dramas with biblical themes, which I believe are universal. In the end, they’re love stories, based on love stories from the Bible. I think it’s a format we need to be in because of our background and our DNA. We created this type of content that other microdrama platforms are now booming with, and we needed to be there,” he said.

For Pons, attracting new audiences is a priority. “I think mobile platforms give us the opportunity to reach younger audiences who will connect with our products and projects. It’s about responding to a market need and reality.”

They are also presenting a documentary special called Giant Awareness: The Awakening of a Giant, which tells the story of the growth of soccer in the United States and specifically the evolution of the national team. It is currently in production and will premiere ahead of the World Cup.

Multiformat growth and partnerships

“There’s growth across multiple formats: microdramas, films, documentaries, and we can’t forget our unit in Argentina, Underground. Netflix will premiere the second season of En el Barro in February. We launched the first season last August, and it was top 10 globally for several weeks, not just in Argentina. We’re also premiering Amor Animal with Amazon, a young adult thriller. And soon we’ll be able to announce another release on Disney, which we’re very excited about and which will generate a lot of buzz,” Pons highlighted.

New hires and reality development

Finally, Pons spoke about the addition of Adrián Santucho to the team. “He brings a strong background and experience, both from working at a network and especially as an independent producer in different territories. He’s going to bring a lot of freshness and strengthen the reality, primetime, and specials teams, which until now have been led by Cisco Suárez, whom I want to acknowledge. He retired on December 31.”

“We’re going to launch two new reality shows. To start with, Operación Triunfo is a hugely successful music talent format. It was produced in Argentina, it was a hit in Spain for 24 years, and we’re bringing music back to the screen. That’s also important for us in terms of attracting new audiences,” he concluded.

Produced by Luis Cabrera and Ana Paula Carreira, from Miami

Produced by Fremantle for Televisa-Univision, and based on the format distributed by Dori Media Group, ¿Apostarías por mí? premiered last Sunday, January 18, on Las Estrellas, Univision, UniMás, and ViX.

A new, revamped, 24/7 version of the competition format, Power Couple, the premiere is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated by Dori Media and marks the next phase of its most successful format worldwide.

“¿Apostarías por mi? went on air this Sunday and we’re very excited”, Nadav Palti, CEO of Dori Media, said to ttvnews at the current edition of Content Americas in Miami. “We worked on it more than 6 months. And this is a development for the next stage of Power Couple“.

“Televisa aires three seasons of Inseparables, and this is kind of the fourth season, but new and 24/7 for the first time”, he added.

The executive celebrated the fact that Power Couple is present in over 20 countries, with more than 60 seasons and 1000 episodes. “And now we believe this is the next step. We have huge expectations. The launch was very good. Everyone is very excited and we believe it will reach all of Europe and Latin America, and the world”, he said.

“It’s innovative because the format is becoming attractive to those channels or platforms that are looking for this type of content, which is now almost all of them, because they also need to drive traffic to digital, and from digital to broadcast TV. It’s a synergy we’re seeking,” added María Perez Campi, Director of Sales for US Hispanic & Latam at Dori Media.

“Furthermore, Power Couple, with its many versions, offers a new opportunity for those who already have several seasons under their belt to refresh their offerings and transition to 24/7 as an alternative. It’s a new structure. The content is constant, and the platforms have their own content; they don’t just rebroadcast what’s on TV, it’s exclusive. It’s a new approach and a new structure for a very powerful format.”

“We expect this to bring us new sales, strengthen the format, and we’re all very excited to see how this season unfolds,” she predicted.

Besides Power Couple, another format that brought Dori Media a lot of joy in recent months is The Auction, which premiered its version in Peru with great success and is already preparing to return with a second installment.

“The Auction was very successful”, Palti said. “It was a great opportunity for us to do it with America TV in Peru. It was a good first season. They now want to do the second season and we are trying to figure out the timing”.

“We are also negotiating it with several countries in the region. I’m sure it will air on many. And we are shooting the pilot in Italy. And we’re negotiating it in France and Spain. It was surpassed our expectations. It’s a really good title. It’s something people want to watch”, he concluded.

Produced by Luis Cabrera and Ana Paula Carreira, from Miami

Making the rounds in all the main industry tradeshows, Turkish drama Bitter Justice is one of the most in-demand titles in Mediahub’s catalog, and has continued to draw in buyers at the current edition of Content Americas in Miami.

“We first introduced Bitter Justice at Mipcom”, Elif Turna, Sales and Business Development Manager at Mediahub, said to ttvnews. “It’s a very international market so we collected great news”.

“Afterwards, we got the chance to present it to buyers from Latam at Mip Cancun”, she continued. “And between the two markets, we also received great feedback from our buyers. Now, here in Miami, we had the chance to show the title to buyers we couldn’t meet with in Cancun”.

Bitter Justice (Aşka Mahkum) premiered on August 16 on Bi Kanal, Turkey’s new national channel. The production, with a script focused on revenge, power, and second chances, is the second project from Globalsphere Studios, a MediaHub subsidiary, in co-production with Nöbetçi Yapım.

Creative direction was handled by Eliz Arkayın-Ungan, who recently joined the studio. The main roles include Shadi Tabarsa, Metehan Cemil Varol, Ümit Olcay, Ejder Karslıgil, Öykü Çakar, Elif Hilal Yalçın, Merve Kurç, Sefer Cambaz, Elif Sima Kurt, Fatih Doğan, Mira Sude Güneş, Alya Mira Türkeş and the legendary Yeşilçam actor Ahmet Mekin.

Aside from Bitter Justice, the executive celebrated a new premiere for Stop! Border Patrol, which is making its debut today in Chile. “There will also be new seasons made in Venice and Mexico,” she revealed. “It’s good news”.
