A new report by Kantar Ibope Media reveals that the pay TV audience increased significantly in the territory’s main countries, mainly driven by the demand for news, series and movies.

Millions of people quarantined due to the coronavirus crisis have caused a significant increase in TV consumption. Such is revealed by a new Kantar Ibope Media study, which registered a notable increase in demand for pay TV in the main territories of Latin America.

In the last four weeks there was an increase of 41% in Colombia, 32% in Brazil, 31% in Argentina, 23% in Chile and 22% in Mexico.

The study also indicates that in the total universe of people with pay TV in Latin America, from March 23 to 29 there was an increase of 29% in TV watching compared to the week of March 2 to 9.

As for content consumption, there was an increase of almost 100% for news, 28% of series and movies, being the most viewed item; 17% for children’s programs; 5% documentaries and 24% lifestyle programs.

The sport, without live events, fell 64%.

Similar numbers were also registered in the streaming universe, where OTT consumption increased 32% in Mexico in March; and an impressive 71% and 108% in Italy and Spain, respectively.
