The Premios Quirino de la Animación Iberoamericana have opened submissions for their 10th edition, inviting productions from across the region to compete in seven main categories. Eligible works must have premiered between June 1, 2025, and December 31, 2026, with entries accepted until November 25 through the Festhome platform.

The awards, which recognize achievements across the Ibero-American animation industry, will hold their 2027 ceremony in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain, on April 23.

The competition covers feature films, series, short films, student short films, animated music videos, commissioned works and video game animation. The first six categories, excluding video game animation, will also be automatically considered for three technical awards: visual development, animation design, and sound design and original music.

One of the main changes for the 10th edition is the introduction of a dedicated selection committee for video game animation. Daniel Santigosa and Laura González will oversee the preselection process for this category, working independently from the main selection committee.

The main committee comprises six industry professionals: Paco Rodríguez, María Laura Moure, Loïc Portier, Barry O’Donoghue, Liliana Rincón and Carlos Miranda. Each category will have six preselected works, from which a single international jury will choose the three nominees and determine the winners.

The preselection results are scheduled for February 2, 2027, followed by the announcement of nominees at a press conference in Madrid in March. Nominees will receive invitations for one representative, including accommodation and per diems in Tenerife from April 21 to 23. Travel expenses will also be covered for nominees in the feature film, series, short film and student short film categories.

The competition rules also establish restrictions on the use of generative artificial intelligence. Works whose final versions contain scripts, images, animation, voices, sound or music generated with generative AI will not be eligible. Its use is permitted only for auxiliary processes, such as reference research or translation.

A growing platform for Ibero-American animation

The 2026 edition received 265 entries from 19 countries, including 103 short films, 60 student short films, 32 series, 20 music videos, 19 feature films, 18 commissioned works and 13 video game animation projects. Spain led submissions with 58 works, followed by Brazil with 52 and Argentina with 42.

Among the winners, Decorado, directed by Alberto Vázquez and produced through a Spain-Portugal collaboration, received the award for Best Feature Film.

Since its launch in 2018, the Quirino ecosystem has developed beyond its annual awards ceremony to include industry initiatives designed to encourage international partnerships and business opportunities. These include the Co-Production and Business Forum, the Future Lab and Quirino Lab.

Entries for the 10th edition must be submitted through Festhome by November 25, 2026, at 23:59 Mexico City time (GMT-6).

The event will include a pitching initiative featuring ten vertical drama projects.

Spain is set to welcome a new industry event dedicated to vertical drama with the launch of Vertifest Magaluf, whose inaugural edition will take place on November 24–25, 2026, in Calvià, Mallorca.

The festival aims to establish itself as a European meeting point for short-form scripted content designed for mobile viewing, a rapidly expanding sector attracting increasing attention from producers, distributors, platforms and investors.

Planned as an annual event, Vertifest Magaluf will combine professional development, networking and project pitching opportunities. It is produced by BIAM, Be a Child Group Productions, TBC Agency, El Destino Producciones and Onza, with institutional support from the Balearic Islands.

One of the event’s main initiatives will be Vertipitch Calvià, a nationwide call for submissions through which ten vertical drama projects will be selected to pitch to audiovisual industry professionals.

The program will also feature Vertitalks, a series of presentations focused on the opportunities and characteristics of vertical storytelling, alongside business roundtables exploring developments across the emerging industry.

A Growing International Market

The launch comes amid the international expansion of vertical dramas, also known as short dramas or microdramas, which feature short episodes and narratives specifically designed for smartphone viewing.

According to Omdia figures cited by the organizers, the global vertical drama market reached US$11 billion in 2025 and is projected to double in size by 2030.

Through the initiative, the organizers aim to support the professionalization of the sector and strengthen Spain’s position as a hub for vertical content production and development.

Mallorca was selected as the host location partly because of its growing audiovisual activity and experience hosting international industry events, including Conecta Fiction.

Vertifest is sponsored by the Calvià City Council through the Sustainable Tourism Tax (ITS), with additional support from the Balearic Islands Government through the Institut d’Estudis Baleàrics, the Consell de Mallorca’s Culture Department and the Fundació Turisme Responsable de Mallorca.

Submission guidelines and registration details for Vertipitch Calvià are available on the official BIAM website.

Netflix has acquired the exclusive rights to the FIFA World Cup 2030 for Spain and Andorra and will broadcast all 104 matches of the world’s biggest football competition live.

The FIFA World Cup 2030 will mark the competition’s centenary. Spain, the reigning world champion, will be one of the tournament’s three host countries, alongside Morocco and Portugal. Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay will also host centenary celebration matches.

Netflix plans to provide comprehensive live coverage of the tournament, with programming featuring a distinctly Spanish approach before each match, at halftime and after the final whistle, as well as a daily highlights show on matchdays and additional content designed to build excitement ahead of the tournament.

As part of the agreement, one match from each matchday will be available free of charge in Spain. In addition, a package of matches will be offered to a national free-to-air broadcaster, including all of Spain’s matches, both semifinals and the final, ensuring broad availability for audiences throughout the country. Further details about Netflix’s partnership with a free-to-air broadcaster to show selected matches will be announced at a later date.

The agreement also expands Netflix’s growing partnership with FIFA. Netflix also holds the media rights in the United States and Canada to the 2027 and 2031 editions of the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

“Few events bring people together quite like a World Cup. This year, I was in the stadium when Spain lifted the trophy, and I experienced firsthand the passion, pride and stories that become part of a country’s culture and remain in people’s memories for generations. Now that Spain will be one of the host countries in 2030, we’re incredibly excited to bring every match to fans in Spain and Andorra on Netflix. For Spanish football fans, welcoming the world as reigning champions and being able to watch every match on Netflix will make this a truly unique occasion. What’s more, our growing partnership with FIFA, which includes the 2027 and 2031 editions of the FIFA Women’s World Cup in the United States and Canada, reflects our ongoing commitment to bringing fans closer to the biggest moments in global sports,” said Bela Bajaria, Chief Content Officer at Netflix.

“We are pleased to continue strengthening our partnership with Netflix as we look ahead to the FIFA World Cup 2030. This will be a very special edition of the tournament, and we look forward to working together to bring it to fans in Spain and Andorra. We share the goal of bringing football even closer to fans so that as many people as possible can experience the excitement of this competition,” said Mattias Grafström, FIFA Secretary General.

The agreement adds to Netflix’s growing offering of premium live sports around the world, which includes the 2027 and 2031 editions of the FIFA Women’s World Cup, NFL and MLB games and events, WWE, and some of the biggest boxing and mixed martial arts (MMA) bouts.

The FIFA World Cup 2030 will celebrate the centenary of the first edition, held in Uruguay in 1930, bringing together the world’s best national teams for a historic edition of the competition.

Shine Iberia, part of Banijay Iberia, has announced a new season of MasterChef Junior Spain, which will premiere exclusively on Disney+ in Spain for the first time.

The new edition will launch on the platform on December 18 and has been developed specifically for Disney+, with a revamped structure, pace and content while retaining the core DNA of the format, which has become a staple of family entertainment in Spain for more than a decade.

The move to Disney+ also opens up new creative possibilities for the production, which will feature themed episodes and challenges inspired by the Disney universe. The season will combine cooking with characters and stories that resonate with audiences across generations.

The five-episode season will bring together 16 aspiring young chefs between the ages of 8 and 12, who will put their culinary skills to the test through a series of games and challenges.

Pepe Rodríguez, Jordi Cruz and Delicious Martha will serve as judges throughout the competition.

The winner will receive a €12,000 cash prize, the MasterChef Junior Spain trophy and a four-day course at the Basque Culinary Center for the winner and a guest.

“Few formats have the longevity and versatility of MasterChef. Its ability to continually evolve is what has made it such an enduring global brand. Disney+ is a natural home for MasterChef Junior, sharing its focus on family entertainment and values such as teamwork, respect, camaraderie and creativity,” said Macarena Rey, CEO of Shine Iberia.

Sofía Fábregas, Vice President of Original Production at Disney+ Spain, highlighted that MasterChef Junior represents the type of projects the platform aims to continue adding to its catalog: formats that are deeply connected with local audiences and capable of bringing different generations together.

“This new season was conceived specifically for Disney+ and represents another step in our commitment to continuing to expand our offering of local productions and unscripted entertainment in Spain,” she said.

Represented internationally by Banijay Entertainment, MasterChef is one of the world’s most successful cookery formats. Created by Franc Roddam and first launched in the UK in 1990, the format has been produced in more than 70 markets, broadcast in more than 200 territories and reached more than one billion viewers worldwide.

Brazil strengthens its presence within Iberofic

The addition of RioFilme and Rio Film Commission expands Brazil’s representation within Iberofic and brings Rio de Janeiro, one of Latin America’s leading audiovisual production hubs, into the network of territories represented by the organization.

Edde’s appointment to the Board of Directors also strengthens Iberofic’s ties with the Brazilian market and dialogue between Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking audiovisual ecosystems.

“Brazil is an essential player when it comes to thinking about the Ibero-American audiovisual industry as an integrated region. The addition of RioFilme and Rio Film Commission not only brings one of Latin America’s cities with the strongest production tradition and capacity into the network, but also allows us to strengthen the bridge with the Brazilian market and advance concrete opportunities for co-production, investment and the circulation of projects between Brazil and the rest of Ibero-America,” said Carolina Cordero, founder and chair of Iberofic’s Board of Directors.

Edde highlighted the potential of cooperation between territories to drive audiovisual production.

“Rio de Janeiro understands audiovisual as an industry that creates jobs, strengthens cultural identity and promotes territorial development. Joining Iberofic expands this strategy: we want to translate cooperation between cities into co-productions, filming attraction and new markets for our productions,” he said.

Spain as a bridge between Europe and Ibero-America

Iberofic’s presence at Iberseries & Platino Industria also aims to reinforce Spain’s role as a connection point between European and Latin American markets.

For the organization, Spain’s industrial scale and production ecosystem make the country a strategic territory for developing partnerships, attracting international projects and expanding the circulation of talent, content and investment.

“Spain occupies a strategic position on the international audiovisual map, particularly as a link between Europe and Ibero-America. For Iberofic, being in Madrid means not only supporting the growth of our industry, but also opening new conversations with producers, investors and international partners,” Cordero said.

Juan Manuel Guimeráns, president of Spain Film Commission, also highlighted Iberofic’s presence in Madrid and Edde’s appointment to its governing body.

“These types of meetings strengthen a network built on collaboration and shared knowledge between territories. We are also pleased that this edition coincides with the appointment of Leonardo Edde to the Board of Directors, bringing a new perspective and strengthening Iberofic’s presence in Brazil,” he said.

As part of Iberseries & Platino Industria, Iberofic will also hold an in-person meeting with the film commissions attending the event.

The addition of RioFilme and Rio Film Commission, together with Iberofic’s participation in Madrid, is part of the network’s expansion strategy, focused on strengthening regional cooperation, promoting new co-productions and consolidating the institutional development of Ibero-American film commissions.

Iberseries & Platino Industria 2026 officially inaugurated its sixth edition on Monday at the Teatros del Canal in Madrid, marking the start of the latest gathering of the premier international meeting point for audiovisual industry professionals working in Spanish and Portuguese.

The event runs from today through October 2 at Matadero Madrid. It is driven by EGEDA and the Secuoya Foundation, in collaboration with FIPCA; sponsored by the Madrid Film Office and Film Madrid Region; and supported by the Ministry of Culture, the Madrid Audiovisual Cluster, the Spain Film Commission, and ICEX Spain Trade and Investment, among other entities.

The opening ceremony was attended by Isabel Díaz Ayuso, President of the Community of Madrid; José Luis Martínez-Almeida, Mayor of Madrid; Enrique Cerezo, President of EGEDA, the Platino Awards, and Platino Industria; Raúl Berdonés, President of the Secuoya Foundation; Carmen Páez, Undersecretary of the Spanish Ministry of Culture; Ignacio Rey, President of FIPCA; María Coronado, Audiovisual Director at the Spanish Society for Technological Transformation (SETT); and Elisa Carbonell, CEO of ICEX. The event was hosted by journalist Yolanda Flores.

Enrique Cerezo opened the official speeches by celebrating the fact that this sixth edition of Iberseries & Platino Industria is taking place in Madrid, a region and city that stands as a major international hub for audiovisual creation and production. “Cinema has been one of the great instruments for building a human space,” he noted, highlighting that “never before has so much content been produced, nor have there been so many screens; never has it been so easy to take a story from any city in Ibero-America to any place on the planet, and our challenge is to ensure that, in that vast global market, our stories achieve the presence they deserve.”

Immediately afterwards, the Mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, emphasized that “for the city of Madrid, cinema and the Ibero-American audiovisual industry represent strategic commitments we wish to support—commitments we are upholding through various initiatives.” He also highlighted Iberseries & Platino Industria as a success story, adding, “We believe, above all, that the cultural vocation uniting the entire Ibero-American community must be reinforced and that ties must be further strengthened; there is no better way to do this than precisely through cinema and series.”

Raúl Berdonés highlighted that one of the great strengths of Iberseries & Platino Industria “is that we have successfully addressed the industry’s needs, working for the whole sector and for everyone, while operating from within Madrid’s audiovisual ecosystem.” The event attracts an ever-growing number of participants, and it is compelling to see the representation from the United States, Asia, Europe, and Latin America today, “because co-productions know no boundaries—and, above all, they transcend language and cultural barriers.”

Undersecretary of Culture Carmen Páez highlighted that, while culture indeed knows no borders, it still requires spaces for dialogue where we can discuss the current landscape and determine the private initiatives and public policies needed to continue strengthening our audiovisual sector. “This is a time of profound change in the audiovisual industry; over the last 20 years, new audiences, new distribution windows, new technologies -such as artificial intelligence- and new viewer segments have begun to emerge within our ecosystem, and it is crucial to consider the position of all the players in our value chain,” he noted.

Prior to the official closing of the opening ceremony for the sixth edition of Iberseries & Platino Industria, Ignacio Rey, María Coronado, and Elisa Carbonell -CEO of ICEX- took part in a discussion regarding the strengthening of the audiovisual industry, its internationalization, and the key challenges facing the sector. María Coronado spoke of the “consolidation of the healthy cruising speed the audiovisual industry is now achieving,” noting that “it is a puzzle made up of many pieces—many of them essential, that must find a perfect, ideal balance.”

Elisa Carbonell stated that “the future competitiveness of the audiovisual sector will depend on our ability to advance from the internationalization of our content to the internationalization of our companies and our industry itself. A strong industry is not merely one that knows how to export hits -something we are certainly doing very successfully- but also one that builds companies capable of truly competing and growing,” she added.

Ignacio Rey pointed out that “fundamentally, to continue consolidating, we must keep training professionals and companies, equipping entrepreneurs, and striving to create content that transcends our borders.” He placed special emphasis on “the distribution and visibility of our works; we are living in a spectacular era for production across Europe and the Americas, and our content is crossing shared borders, yet this reality applies to only a portion of productions, that is the major challenge we face,” he concluded.

Finally, the President of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, took the floor. She highlighted that, during these days, Madrid is once again becoming the undisputed audiovisual capital of Europe and Ibero-America. “We should celebrate this,” she said, “because we are part of a major cultural and economic powerhouse -comprising over 800 million Spanish and Portuguese speakers- with an ever-growing capacity for our stories to travel the globe; we share words, songs, literature, and ways of celebrating and understanding life.” He added that “this network of connections makes us greater and more universal -including when we sit down to write a script or produce a film. In Madrid, our goal is for Ibero-American creators to find partners, work, audiences, and everything else they need- but above all, and most importantly, to feel right at home.”

Following the opening ceremony, Iberseries & Platino Industria is hosting four days dedicated to industry activities, professional exchange, and the creation of business opportunities for the Ibero-American and international audiovisual sectors.

A strong start cementing the event’s growth

The sixth edition kicks off with over 2,800 accredited professionals, a 20% increase compared to the start of the previous edition. The event also brings together around 1,500 participating companies, a 15% rise over last year, which had already seen 30% growth compared to earlier editions.

One of the key indicators of Iberseries & Platino Industria’s evolution is its expanding international reach. Fifty-four countries are represented in this edition, the highest number to date and more than double the figure from the inaugural event.

Forty-seven percent of accredited professionals come from outside Spain, while 53% are from within the country. Leading countries of origin include -in this order- Mexico, Argentina, the United States, Colombia, Chile, Peru, Portugal, France, Brazil, Italy, Uruguay, Belgium, Germany, and the United Kingdom, in addition to Spain.

Mexico will be the “Country in Focus” for this sixth edition, featuring a cross-cutting presence that fosters dialogue among production, talent, incentives, technical services, infrastructure, post-production, and new business opportunities. With over 150 accredited professionals, Mexico boasts the second-largest level of participation at the event, trailing only Spain.

This internationalization is also reflected in the growing presence of professionals from outside the Ibero-American region; participation has expanded to include European countries and markets such as Turkey, China, India, and Korea, among others, progressively broadening the event’s connections with new territories and audiences.

The evolution in professional participation has seen the number of accredited professionals more than double since the inaugural edition, cementing the upward trajectory of Iberseries & Platino Industria and its mission to serve as a bridge between the Ibero-American audiovisual industry and the international market.

Over 120 activities and 230 speakers

More than 120 activities will take place over the four-day event, including over 50 panels, high-level conferences, and professional networking sessions addressing key trends, opportunities, and challenges within the audiovisual industry.

The program features established staples -such as the Co-production and Financing Forum, Pitch Sessions with platforms and production companies, and the Showrunner Workshop- alongside new, specialized training initiatives like “Thinking Like a Producer: Creative Business Strategy,” the practical “Legal & Business Affairs for Producers and Creators” workshop, and the “Artificial Intelligence for Creators: Boosting Audiovisual Storytelling” workshop. These initiatives are complemented by new spaces designed to foster talent and project development—such as the Euro Atlantic Series Co-Pro Pitch, the Pitch for Literary Works for Audiovisual Adaptation, the Professional Meeting with the SGAE Foundation, and the inaugural RECREAS call for projects (spearheaded by DAMA)—alongside other activities aimed at supporting the creation, development, financing, and international circulation of content.

The program features over 230 speakers and key professionals from across the audiovisual sector—spanning production, creation, distribution, exhibition, and financing—as well as representatives from platforms, broadcasters, studios, organizations, and institutions.

A total of 24 Iberscreenings sessions will be held for international buyers, focusing on screenings, previews, and exclusive premieres across the event’s various formats: Chapter One, Coming Soon, Showcase, Second Window, Cinema Premiere, and Gala Screening.

Iberseries & Platino Industria will host 200 international buyers (including 50 commissioning editors) from Europe, the Americas, and Asia -an 11% increase over the previous edition- thereby reinforcing its role as a vital link between Ibero-American content and international markets.

A space to drive new projects and business opportunities

Fostering the creation and development of new content will be another key focus of this edition. The event’s various calls for submissions have received over 1,000 projects, 168 of which have been selected to participate in the different professional initiatives. The event will also bring together 30 exhibitors representing over 100 companies across 18 stands—including ProColombia, Argentina Audiovisual, Imagina, Air Media 360, India, the Chilean Film and Television Producers Association, EGEDA Peru, the Ibero-America-China Industries Association (AIIC), Andersen, Crea SGR, ECAM, Almarae, SEGO Finance, Platino Empleo, Ibermedia, the Association of Independent Television Producers (APIT), WAWA, and Spanish producers’ associations (AECINE, AGAPI, ANCINE, AVANT, EPE IBAIA, and PATE) at the International Audiovisual Market (MAI)—along with 12 pavilions at Plaza Matadero, the highest number to date: EGEDA, Secuoya Studios, Movistar Plus, Atresmedia, Inter Medya, RTVE, Mexico, the Italian Pavilion, Spain Film Commission & Iberofic, OM-MA, the Madrid Audiovisual Cluster, and the Madrid Film Office.

Joining them are more than 180 accredited journalists who will cover the event—an occasion that has established itself as a showcase for Ibero-American audiovisual production and a forum for analyzing the sector’s evolution.

A connection point between Ibero-America and the global market

Held annually in Madrid, Iberseries & Platino Industria was created to foster connections between key players in the Ibero-American audiovisual industry and the international market. Over the course of its six editions, the event has progressively expanded both its professional scope and its geographic reach.

The participation of professionals from new international markets complements an increasingly broad and diverse Ibero-American community, reinforcing the event’s role as a meeting point for producers, creators, platforms, broadcasters, studios, distributors, buyers, investors, and other audiovisual industry stakeholders.

With this sixth edition, Iberseries & Platino The Industry sector continues to foster a space designed to build alliances, facilitate knowledge exchange, promote the international circulation of content, and contribute to the development of new audiovisual projects.
