SkyShowtime released the first-look images from its upcoming Spanish Original Death in Llanes (Muerte en Llanes). Created and written by Jesús Mesas Silva and directed by Gerardo Olivares, the six-part limited series is inspired by the Guardia Civil’s investigation into the murder of Llanes councillor Javier Ardines.

Death in Llanes (Muerte en Llanes) stars two-time Goya Award winner Javier Gutiérrez (Rondallas), María Vázquez (Matria) and Isak Férriz (City of Shadows). Completing the cast are Urko Olazábal (Soy Nevenka), Irene Anula (Raising Voices), Jone Laspiur (Ane), Ana Wagener (The Last Night at Tremor Beach), Natalia Verbeke (Todos mienten), Jorge Bosch (Las abogadas), Carlos Lorenzo (Águila Roja), Miren Gaztañaga (Maspalomas), and Yune Nogueiras (Akelarre).

The series is produced by K 2000 in collaboration with 100 Balas for SkyShowtime. Alejandro Flórez and Manu Sánchez serve as executive producers.

On 16 August 2018, Javier Ardines is found dead one hundred meters from his home. The case quickly makes headlines, and the Guardia Civil launches an investigation marked by political rivalries, rigged examinations and personal conflicts. The case takes a significant turn when new evidence reveals an unexpected love triangle.

Death in Llanes (Muerte en Llanes) is the latest addition to SkyShowtime’s Spanish original slate, which also includes Shades (Matices), Nails, Road to Arcadia (Camino a Arcadia) and The Tribute (El Homenaje), as well as the docuseries A Recipe for Murder (Receta para un asesinato).

Mediawan has acquired the option rights to Trojan Horse, the original unscripted format created by Kinetic Content, for several key European territories, expanding the collaboration between the two companies following the group’s recent acquisition of The North Road Company.

The deal covers France, Spain, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands and Finland, where Mediawan’s production companies will develop local adaptations of the format as part of the group’s strategy to build international IP and strengthen creative collaboration across its European operations.

Created by Kinetic Content, the US production company founded in 2010 and led by CEO Chris Coelen, Trojan Horse is a high-concept game show inspired by one of Greek mythology’s most iconic stories. The format reimagines the legendary deception of the Trojan Horse as a contemporary studio competition in which teams must decide whether the giant horse before them contains a valuable prize or a dangerous trap.

“Joining Mediawan has given us a tremendous opportunity to develop and share original IP across an extraordinary network of world-class producers. Trojan Horse is the kind of format that travels; it’s instantly understandable, highly adaptable and designed to engage audiences anywhere. We’re thrilled to see our partners across Europe bring this format to life,” said Chris Coelen, CEO of Kinetic Content.

Elisabeth d’Arvieu, Group Chief Content Officer of Mediawan and CEO of Mediawan Pictures, said the acquisition further demonstrates the group’s ambition to strengthen creative and commercial collaboration across its global production footprint.

“By aligning several group companies around a single high-potential format, we aim to accelerate local adaptations while benefiting from shared expertise, coordinated development and a collective approach to building premium unscripted IP,” she added.

Following its official launch last September at the San Sebastian Film Festival, the brand-new Galician production hub Pedralonga Estudios is wrapping up an intense 2025 agenda of professional events with its attendance at Focus, the event dedicated to the creation, production and promotion of screen content that brings together producers, technical services and filming and financing managers from around the world every year in London.

Pedralonga Estudios’ presence at the forum, whose 11th edition will take place on 8 and 9 December, is in line with the falicity’s internationalisation strategy and its desire to put its infrastructure and services on the European map, led by Coruña Estudio Inmersivo (CEI) –Coruña Immersive Studio–, the virtual soundstage with the best technical equipment in Spain for film, television and immersive formats productions.

Proof of this can be seen in the latest shootings hosted by the complex, including several sequences from the feature film Dímelo en secreto, a Prime Video Original produced by Vaca Films that adapts the second instalment of the Dímelo (Tell me) trilogy, written by best-selling Spanish author Mercedes Ron; and the latest campaigns by Zara Kids for its new winter collection The winter project and Pull&Bear, both Inditex Group brands, which opted for the CEI’s virtual production and digital integration capabilities.

Anxo Noya

Team reinforcement: key technical and operational talent

At the same time, Pedralonga Estudios has added two key profiles to its structure: Anxo Noya is the new technical director of the complex, while Laura Pazienza takes on the role of production coordinator.

Noya has extensive experience in audiovisual production and technical management, having started his career as an electronics technician for the Galician regional pubcaster TVG. In 2000, he joined the production company Voz Audiovisual as Technical Director, where, among other tasks, he was responsible for the design, implementation and operation of the private free-to-air channel V Television. All of this contributes to his operational experience and leadership in the start-up and operation of the studio’s technical facilities.

On the other hand, Pazienza has worked in various animation production companies and VFX studios such as El Ranchito, Antaruxa and Undodez. At the latter, he was production manager for the children’s series ‘Bibopalula’ (2024), ‘Bechos S2’ (2025) and ‘Pipo’ (2025). A regular at markets such as Annecy-MIFA, Series Mania Forum and Mipcom, her incorporation strengthens Pedralonga Estudios’ capacity to manage complex projects and offer comprehensive services to production companies seeking filming sets and technical support in Spain.

José Manuel Deus, managing director of Pedralonga Estudios, explains that “we show most producers two or three examples so they can see the real potential of CEI and immediately understand that they can produce faster, with better results and significant savings. We can virtually recreate any environment or era, and we work with a wide variety of projects and budgets. The sooner we can get involved in a project, ideally from the script stage, the greater the impact in terms of time and money efficiency, with a standard of quality that is difficult to match. Very few European centres come close to what CEI offers the screen industry.”

After an excellent nine months of the year, Atresmedia hopes to successfully complete a 2025 that has seen it lead the local TV market, produce fiction at a rapid pace and with fantastic results, and conquer audiences abroad, as demonstrated by the success of Ángela (6 x 50′) in Latin America on Netflix.

“Atresmedia’s content continues to attract many viewers both at home and abroad, as is the case with Ángela, whose premiere surpassed other original blockbusters on the American platform in many places,” said Miguel García Sánchez, Sales Director of Atresmedia Sales.

Atresmedia’s strength allows it to invest in all types of fiction, both new and proven hits -such as Sueños de libertad- as well as successful formats like El desafío, now in its fifth season.

Its distribution division once again posted excellent results this year, proving the solidity of its strategy: “The main factor driving us to continue increasing content production and distribution is the success we’ve achieved,” said García. “The Atresmedia Series label has established itself as a benchmark in quality, originality, and diversity, triumphing worldwide. This success is also thanks to the excellent professionals who work with us and the production companies we collaborate with on each project.”

“We continue to strive to reach as many territories and audiences as possible with a firm commitment to the international sales of our catalog,” he added.

A NEW ATRESMEDIA DAY

The new program Atresmedia presented at the 2024 edition of Iberseries & Platino Industria returns with a vengeance in 2025: on Tuesday, September 30th, Atresmedia Day will include the screening, on Segunda Ventana, of episodes of What Are You Waiting For?, La ruta Vol. 2: Ibiza, and Carles Porta’s highly anticipated series, 33 Days.

What Are You Waiting For? (8 x 50′) is the television adaptation of Megan Maxwell’s women’s novels: “After its success on Atresplayer, the series will premiere soon on Antena 3,” commented García. “It’s a series about two young people, the wealthy pilot Can and Sonia, a young, liberal publicist who, despite seeking no-strings-attached relationships and a life of singlehood without ties, end up falling in love and overcoming all barriers and prejudices.”

La ruta vol.2: Ibiza (6 x 50′), is the continuation of the acclaimed series by Caballo Films, set in Ibiza, the cradle of techno music in the early 2000s. “In this new season we will see the evolution and new life of Marc, played by Alex Monner, after leaving behind his native Valencia and the Ruta del Bakalao, which we discovered during the first season of the series,” shared the executive.

33 Days (6 x 50′), meanwhile, is a new project from Atresmedia in collaboration with Carles Porta, starring Juan Manuel Poga (Money Heist) and Julián Villagrán (A muerte). “It’s the first fiction about the famous case of the escape of two prisoners in 2001,” explained García. “Two tough guys who dream of freedom and would give their lives for each other, in a friendship that sometimes feels more like a love story. An escape that kept Spain in jeopardy for 33 long days.”

Atresmedia Day will also include a cocktail reception sponsored by the company, during which there will be a special presentation of the first images of Las hijas de la criada, the television adaptation of the novel of the same name by Sonsoles Ónega, winner of the 2023 Planeta Prize.

“Las hijas de la criada (8 x 50′) is a blockbuster, an exclusive series from Atresmedia in collaboration with Buendía Estudios that is currently in post-production and that we will premiere on Atresplayer in the coming months,” explained García. “Starring Verónica Sánchez (El embarcadero, Ángela) and Carlota Baró (El secreto del Puente Viejo), it tells the story of two daughters, Clara and Catalina, born into the home of a wealthy family in Galicia at the beginning of the 20th century. Clara is the daughter of the maid, Renata, while Catalina is the daughter of the Valdés family, Don Gustavo and Doña Inés.”

In the series, an unexpected revenge will shake up the lives of these girls and all of them, and will force Doña Inés to survive heartbreak and the pain of abandonment. She will also have to survive the power struggles to turn her real daughter into the heir to an empire, in an era when women weren’t allowed to control their own lives.

SIRA, THE SEQUEL OF THE TIME IN BETWEEN

With the return of Adriana Ugarte as Sira Quiroga, the spin-off of the successful The Time In Between was confirmed.

“We are thrilled with the news that The Time Between Seams will continue with this new series and we are sure it will be a success,” commented García. “We can only say that it will be a great Buendía Estudios production filmed in different parts of the world, recreating and adapting Maria Dueñas’s best-selling novel for television.”

Sira, executive produced by Dueñas, will be broadcast locally on Atresmedia and internationally on Netflix. Regarding international distribution, Atresmedia Sales will have the rights “in the territories and under the conditions permitted by our collaboration agreement with Netflix for this project,” García emphasized.

Filming has begun on Matar a un oso (Killing a Bear), the new original Movistar Plus+ series produced with ARTE France and in collaboration with Kubik Films (Studio TF1).

Created by brothers Jorge and Alberto Sánchez-Cabezudo, and directed by Jorge Sánchez-Cabezudo, filming will take place in locations such as the Aran Valley, the Catalan Pyrenees, Madrid and Segovia.

The six-episode series Matar a un oso is inspired by real events and begins with the mysterious death of the bear Cachou in the Aran Valley during the pandemic lockdown. This event triggers an unprecedented judicial investigation in Spain, in which the animal’s death is treated as a murder. This brings to light deep tensions between the inhabitants of the valley, environmentalism and European policies, reflecting a conflict between tradition and modernity that is highly relevant today.

Synopsis

The death of the bear Cachou in the Aran Valley triggers a criminal investigation unprecedented in the case of an animal’s death. The suspects are the inhabitants of the Valley, which will become the scene of a clash between the global and the ancestral, where only a few will fight to prevent the conflict from erupting with irreparable consequences.

In the words of the creators

Jorge and Alberto Sánchez-Cabezudo: “The story of the bear Cachou is a multi-layered case. What seemed like a surreal event became a complex portrait of the clash between the local and the global, tradition and the present. It is a real privilege to work with the actors and actresses who are part of this project, as well as with the usual Kubik Films team, who motivate us to take on the challenge that this series represents. Matar a un oso is a story that is as unexpected as it is real. Each point of view brings us closer to a conflict that speaks of identity, the environment and the latent violence in coexistence. We are delighted to be working with Movistar Plus+ again; we feel that this project is tailor-made for a platform that is committed to ambitious and unique series such as this one”.

Key facts

Jorge Sánchez Cabezudo directs four of the six episodes that make up the series, and Borja Soler (La Ruta: Ibiza) directs episodes two and four.

As for the script, the Sánchez-Cabezudo brothers and brothers Pablo and Daniel Remón are once again forming a creative tandem after their recent collaboration on the series See You in Another Life.

Jorge and Alberto Sánchez-Cabezudo are also the creators of some of the most acclaimed series, such as the Movistar Plus+ originals Crematorium (Ondas Award for Best Spanish Series) and The Zone (Feroz Award for Best Drama Series).

Matar a un oso features a first-rate cast headed by Eduard Fernández, María Rodríguez Soto, Miki Esparbé, Pol López, Nora Navas and Àlex Monner.

The series is also committed to sustainable filming in an environment as delicate as the Pyrenees.

The ninth edition of Conecta Fiction & Entertainment, held from 16 to 19 June in Cuenca (Castilla-La Mancha), concludes today with a highly positive balance, returning to the essence of its first editions, supporting talent, and demonstrating an innate capacity to establish high-value connections.

All the more reasons that speak of the importance of this event, as highlighted by the Government of Castilla-La Mancha, which has been supporting Conecta for the last four consecutive editions, confirming its commitment to developing the audiovisual industry in the region.

Over the last four days, 700 participants from 31 countries have attended the event, which aims to promote co-production projects and international agreements.

France and Canada, this year’s focus countries, featured in numerous sessions and networking activities that facilitated the creation of creative and commercial links between their production companies and talent with the rest of the European and American markets in attendance.

Géraldine Gonard, director of Conecta Fiction & Entertainment, sums up this year’s edition: “The content industry is in a moment of profound transformation: economic challenges, technological evolution, and new consumer habits require us to rethink our strategies and adapt with agility. During these four days, we have seen that, although the context is uncertain, it is also full of opportunities for those who know how to innovate and bet on quality and creativity. It is undeniable that if business models are changing, international events must also change, and the challenge is enormous for all of us”.

The organizers have provided the main figures for this ninth edition held in Cuenca, whose participation was split 70-30 between executives from Europe and America, respectively.

As usual in professional meetings, the weight of national representation was very important, reaching 65%. The presence of European and American delegates was very balanced, with the

French and Canadian nationalities being the most represented. Portugal, last year’s focus country, returned to Conecta with an outstanding number of companies and broadcasters, reconfirming the confidence of its industry in Conecta as a platform.

The Teatro Auditorio José Luis Perales and the Hospedería del Seminario, main venues of Conecta 9, hosted more than 2,000 meetings throughout the event. Its full programme included 17 panels, 9 keynotes, 7 pitching sessions, 4 Commissioners Uncovered meetings, 3 international content showcases and 3 series screenings.

Conecta Creative Lab

Another highlight was the Conecta Creative Lab, held on Monday 16th, in which a hundred delegates debated the current and future challenges of the media landscape.

The activity brought together two important events: the sixth edition of Conecta Think Tank and a Trilateral Meeting, in which institutional representatives and production companies from Canada, France and Spain worked on the design of strategic alliances aimed at promoting collaboration and international co-production between the three countries.

Conecta Fiction Fest

The city has received Conecta Fiction Fest, the organization’s new bet on activities open to the public. These days, numerous attendees have come to the Teatro Auditorio José Luis Perales to enjoy a careful selection of international series and a panel discussion featuring renowned Spanish authors, whose literary works have leaped the screen.

An intense inaugural day

Conecta Fiction & Entertainment’s conference program continues to offer sessions of special relevance this Thursday morning: the day begins with a new meeting of Los Desayunos de la Academia, organized in collaboration with the Spanish Academy of Television and Audiovisual Arts and Sciences.

Under the title ‘Spanish Content Internationalization’, several spokespersons from national and international production companies and broadcasters such as NBCUniversal Telemundo, RTVE, Banijay Iberia and Mediaset España, among others, will present different success stories of Spanish content and formats that have been adapted in other international markets.

British expert Charlotte Berman will then give a keynote on best practices when designing marketing strategies to boost the success of reality programmes and turn them into mass phenomena.

The day closes with two panels belonging to Conecta Digital, the strand that brings together technology and digital content creation: a Conecta Women meeting that gathers top female executives from Europe, the United States and Mexico to talk about digital leadership; and a showcase in which the Spanish production companies Phileas and Beta Entertainment Spain will introduce their original format ‘Dancing with robots’, a dance talent show between celebrities and AI-powered robots.

SkyShowtime has announced that Arcadia, a new Spanish SkyShowtime Original series starring William Levy (Montecristo) and Paula Echevarría (Velvet) will be coming to the platform later this year.

Arcadia is produced by Arcadia La Serie (Secuoya Studios) in association with ViX and SkyShowtime. Directed by Jorge Saavedra, written by Lidia Fraga and Jacobo Díaz, and executive produced by David Martínez, Sergio Pizzolante, Carlos Portela, William Levy and Jeff Goldberg.

Arcadia tells the story of Pablo, who has it all — a quiet life, a close-knit community and a son he adores. As the coach of a Canarian youth wrestling team, he’s known for his kindness and calm demeanour in the peaceful town of Arcadia. No one knows the truth about Pablo’s dark, dangerous past. Once living on the edge in Mexico, he escaped his violent life to protect his son Bruno. Becoming a father changed everything for him — but running away from his old life came at a cost. His wife, who he left behind, has never forgiven him. Now she’s back, ready to shatter the world he’s built. As old secrets resurface and tension boils, Pablo is forced to confront his past. Can he protect his son and hold onto the paradise he created, or will his former life destroy everything he loves?
