OGM Universe arrived at Mipcom 2026 with Deep in Love (Taşacak Bu Deniz) as one of its key international titles. Produced by OGM Pictures for TRT 1, the drama is set in Turkey’s Black Sea region and stars Ulaş Tuna Astepe, Deniz Baysal, Burak Yörük and Ava Yaman.
The series, which returned to Turkish television for its second season, follows two families divided by generations of conflict and a love story shaped by secrets, revenge and a daughter whose parents believed she had been lost.
In Latam, Deep in Love is currently on air in Panamá and Honduras, with more territories to come, said Mikaela Pérez, Sales Director for Latin America, the US and Iberia at OGM Universe. “We are excited about this second season. Its second episode, last Friday, was once again leader in its timeslot”.
“I think one of the things that captivated local audiences from the very beginning of Deep in Love was the location. The Black Sea is central to the entire production, and all that natural beauty is captured in an almost cinematic way. The shots are truly wonderful.”
“There’s also the chemistry between the characters, the distinctive dialect of the region and, with everything that’s changing on Turkish television, all the new series and the cancellations we’re seeing, I think Deep in Love arrived with a unique story, in a unique setting, with characters that audiences genuinely love, not just in Turkey but internationally as well. That’s what keeps the story relevant,” she added.
Pérez believes the combination of ambitious visuals and a universal romantic story is among the series’ strongest selling points. “The writers are incredible, and the artistic work we’re showing is unique. I think that’s one of the hallmarks of OGM Pictures. It’s a story that can work anywhere in the world, with a well-known and much-loved cast. And, ultimately, it’s a love story,” she said.
“It’s a Romeo and Juliet-style love story, but twenty years later, when the protagonists reunite and discover the daughter they thought they had lost. I think that connects with audiences and moves them. I wouldn’t say it’s completely different from every other Turkish drama, because most of them share a similar storytelling structure. But it’s a beautiful story, with a great deal of struggle, revenge and very strong female characters who have a powerful presence,” Pérez explained.
A Catalogue of Different Stories and Characters
Alongside Deep in Love, OGM Universe is presenting other titles from its drama catalogue in Cannes, including The Fall of the King (Kral Kaybederse), starring Halit Ergenç. “We have more recent productions such as The Fall of the King, which has created many opportunities for us in the region. It stars Halit Ergenç, who is very well known and loved. It’s the story of a wonderful, charismatic man, the typical Latin lover who wants everything and has everything, until suddenly he realizes that he’s completely alone,” Pérez said.
“His personality, the way he sees things and his psychological issues, because he’s a born narcissist, make the story compelling. And I think audiences connect with it because we’ve all met someone like that: perhaps a friend, a relative, a friend’s husband or a friend’s boyfriend,” she added.
The executive also highlighted Six of Us (Sahipsizler), the family melodrama following six siblings after the death of their parents.
“We also have Six of Us, a family melodrama about six siblings who go through an enormous number of hardships after losing their parents and arriving in Istanbul. It’s about rebuilding a life they never had,” she explained.
“We also have Lost in Love and Broken Destiny, which is currently airing in Colombia on Caracol. I’m very proud that our titles are on air in so many countries today, from Six of Us and Broken Destiny to Lost in Love and The Fall of the King. It makes us very proud of the work we do as a team,” Pérez added.
She also emphasized the composition of OGM Universe’s team and its contribution to the distributor’s international expansion.
“This is a team of women. We have our boss, Erdem Seçkin, and Ohannes Yalın in finance, but overall we’re a team of hardworking, determined women who have managed to bring these stories not just to Latin America, but to many other countries around the world, and successfully,” she said.
A Continued Audience Interest
Pérez also discussed the challenges facing Turkish drama distribution in Latin America, particularly as broadcasters contend with tighter budgets and fewer programming slots for international fiction.
“Purchases of Turkish content by local programmers have fallen significantly. In Chile, programming slots have been reduced, and the same has happened in Argentina and Ecuador. I feel that because of budgets, the economy and so many changes we’re experiencing right now, demand has declined, but interest among Latin American audiences hasn’t,” she said. “That’s what makes this market more dynamic and pushes us to find strategies that allow us to reach agreements flexible enough to work for everyone.”
