The Entertainment Division director spoke about the upcoming MIP London, an event designed to “complement and not compete” with the existing events, and provide a one-stop solution for distributors and buyers.

Late last month, RX France, organizers of the Mip markets, announced that this current edition of Miptv would be its last, as the event will be moving to London next year under the new name MIP London.

During the second day of Miptv in Cannes, Lucy Smith, Entertainment Division director for the company, shared new details about the upcoming event.

“Forget exhibition hall, and think screenings, meetings and networking”, began the executive. “MIP London is a multi-genre international Mip market and networking event.”

Taking place from the 24 to the 27 of February, with a pre-opening on Sunday 23, MIP London “will run adjacent to the BBC Showcase and London TV Screenings. Yet, it’s not about competing with, but rather complementing the existing screenings set up,” she explained.

“How do we do that?,” she continued. “It’s complementary because there are more international companies wanting to go to London in February. But many don’t have a base or event support in London, so we can help provide a one-stop solution, rather than them having to organize everything on their own.”

“It’s complementary also because it will alleviate a busy events calendar in that first half of the year, which is needed. And lastly because it brings the opportunity and potential to bring more buyers to London, which will be to the benefit of all.”

The executive also shared the official numbers for the current edition of Miptv, which welcomed attendees from 84 countries and 1133 buyers.
