With powerful titles - between co-productions, traditional Turkish dramas and short series - Inter Medya enjoyed an exceptional end of the year, where the quality of its catalog was visible to buyers in different international markets, whom it approached with special events and screenings held in Cannes and Cancún.
International events are regaining the value they had before the pandemic, as a key meeting point for international distributors to bring their catalogs closer to regional buyers.
The experienced Turkish distributor and production company Inter Medya took advantage of recent events – Mipcom in Cannes and MipCancun in Mexico – to focus on some of its main contents for 2023, including the successful Deception, now in its second season; the series The Ivy, part of the «New Generation Turkish Series» catalogue; and the most recent of its co-productions, Leylifer, made together with Caracol Televisión.
Below, we review in detail the main virtues of these titles, in the words of their creators and artists.
Inter Medya’s first co-production in Latin America, born from its agreement with Colombia’s Caracol Television, was the star of the Turkish company’s participation in the recent edition of MipCancun 2023.
On Wednesday 15th, Inter Medya held the screening of Leylifer (120 x 45′) at the Cancún Theatre, a presentation by Beatriz Cea Okan, VP and head of Sales and Acquisitions of Inter Medya.
«The truth is that the room has been full and the title has had a very positive acceptance,» commented the executive after the screening. «Everyone has congratulated us so we are very happy about this new first project with our partner Caracol.»
In Leylifer, Meryem, formerly known as Maria, travels to Istanbul with her husband Kemal and her children for her sister’s wedding. However, her plans to return to her home in Spain are abruptly interrupted when Kemal disappears, only to be found dead in a burned-out car, with a woman she Meryem never met. Meryem believes that Kemal was murdered and promises to stay in Istanbul until she finds her killer.
The 120-episode series stars Cuban-American actress Camila Duarte and Turkish actors Can Verel and Pervin Balcı.
Alim Yapim was responsible for the production of the content. «I believe that this series, which serves as a beautiful bridge between two cultures, will offer us a valuable experience,» commented Kadir Doğulu, co-founder of the production company.
After working together on the international distribution of the global phenomenon Bitter Lands, Inter Medya and TIMS&B Productions have joined forces again to bring Deception, one of the Turkish TV phenomena, to the rest of the world.
The drama, in its second season on the ATV screen, has maintained the excellent ratings of its first season in this second installment. Deception quickly became a fan-favorite with its unique blend of drama, family and love, and the first season has captivated audiences with its gripping stories and stellar performances.
Starring Vahide Percin, Mustafa Ugurlu and Ercan Kesal, Deception (Aldatmak) has been praised for its captivating plot that keeps audiences on the edge of their seats.
In Deception, Güzide Yenersoy is a respectable family judge living in Istanbul. Married for 30 years and having two children, Güzide has what could be described as the epitome of a perfect family. Her husband, Tarık, is an experienced and successful lawyer who runs his own law firm. Her son, Ozan, is a construction engineer and works in a prestigious company, while her daughter, Oylum, studies medicine in Holland, at the insistence of her mother. From the outside, the Yenersoy family has a perfect life based on trust and love, but the truth is completely different from this false reality. Although everything seems to be going well, Güzide is unaware that the facts buried in the past will come to light again.
«This program has already achieved great success in Turkey and confidently continues her journey abroad. It has been a pleasure to collaborate with TIMS&B Productions once again, as they have demonstrated their excellent production quality as always. Thank you to everyone involved in bringing this project to life!» said Can Okan, Founder and CEO of Inter Medya.
With the presence of Burçin Terzioglu and Onur Tuna, The Ivy shined at Mipcom, where the series was presented to international audiences, earning positive reviews for its intriguing story and impressive cast.
Presented with a special event – which provided the possibility of talking with its protagonists -, The Ivy (Sarmaşık Zamanı), an original from the TOD platform, is part of the «New Generation Turkish Series» catalog that Inter Medya has developed and grown with curation focused on content suitable for digital platforms.
At The Ivy, Ezgi’s life seemed magnificent. She had a marriage that everyone envied, with a husband full of attention and love: Kerem. However, a stranger warns her that Kerem wants to kill her. Ezgi chooses not to believe him, even though he tells him secrets that no one else should know. At the same time, Arzu, her closest friend within the complex where they live, is murdered. Is the man she fell in love with a psychopath?
«The Ivy stands out as one of the most successful works in our catalogue, thanks to its compelling plot, excellent production quality and dazzling performances,» commented Can Okan. «Following its success in Turkey and the Middle East, we introduced this series in Europe, where it gained significant interest, especially from our Western European clientele. «We believe The Ivy will also be well received in Latin American and Asian markets following its launch in Europe, and we are proud to partner with beIN Media Group to promote this exceptional series around the world.»
