ViX announces the premiere of the fourth season of Mujeres Asesinas, arriving on the platform November 6, with a new episode every Friday, exclusively on the premium plan. The first episode will also be available on ViX’s free tier.

The new season features eight standalone stories about women facing extreme circumstances and making decisions that will change their lives forever. Angélica Rivera, Livia Brito, Paulina Gaitán, Ana Brenda Contreras, Susana Zabaleta, Karena Flores, Iazua Larios y Mayra Batalla lead this new installment, portraying women from different backgrounds and realities whose stories share the same outcome: murder.

Once again, Mujeres Asesinas goes beyond the crime itself to explore what happens before that moment. Violence, abuse, manipulation, fear and extreme vulnerability are at the heart of these stories, which seek to understand the women behind each case, revealing their struggles, fears and the circumstances that led them to make a life-altering decision.

Episodes in Release Order

1. Livia Brito stars in Leticia a woman trying to build a life away from her abusive husband. When he finds her again and puts her in danger once more, Leticia must defend herself and face the consequences.

2. Angélica Rivera plays Alba, a woman who has lived under her husband’s control until a tragedy shatters any hope of getting her life back. She then decides to stop obeying him and confront him once and for all.

3. In Silvia, Ana Brenda Contreras plays a woman trying to repair her relationship with her son while fighting to get ahead. When a man begins harassing her and puts her family at risk, a desperate situation pushes her to defend herself.

4. Susana Zabaleta portrays Luz, a woman obsessed with staying young who discovers a situation that forces her to stop looking the other way and take action to protect her daughter.

5. In Adela, Mayra Batalla portrays a young woman secretly pursuing her studies while trying to protect her baby from a violent man. When he threatens to hurt her, Adela must find the strength to stand up to him.

6. Graciela, Iazua Larios portrays a woman trying to restore stability to her family after years of dealing with her husband’s addictions and debts. When her daughter’s safety is threatened, Graciela is forced to make an extreme decision.

7. In Celia, Karena Flores plays a young woman trapped under the control of her stepfather while caring for her brother, who has paralysis. When she finally finds an opportunity to escape, she must confront her greatest threat.

8. Finally, Paulina Gaitán stars in Reyna, a woman who learns to defend herself after experiencing violence. When someone close to her becomes a victim once again, Reyna decides to take justice into her own hands.

Produced by The Mall, the fourth season features stories inspired by the world created by Marisa Grinstein, author of the book Mujeres Asesinas, which has inspired more than 100 episodes adapted across different productions. The season is directed by Javier Solar and Lucía Gajá, with Jorge Bermúdez serving as executive producer.

Featuring complex characters and stories that explore the circumstances behind each crime, this new season continues to shine a light on the stories that often remain behind the headlines: who these women were, what they experienced and what led them to the moment that changed their lives forever.

Eight women. Eight stories. Eight decisions that will change their lives forever.

Sky and ITV have until October 20 to respond to the government’s objections.

The UK government is considering intervening in Sky’s proposed acquisition of ITV’s television and streaming businesses, a deal valued at up to £1.6 billion (US$2.1 billion), amid concerns over media plurality and the diversity of audiovisual content available to audiences.

On October 15, UK Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy indicated that she was minded to trigger a public interest intervention and sent letters to both companies outlining her concerns. Sky and ITV have until October 20 to submit their representations before a final decision is made on whether to proceed with the intervention.

The issues under consideration include freedom of expression in the media, diversity of viewpoints and media ownership concentration. The review could also bring renewed attention to the regulatory framework governing the availability of high-quality content on streaming platforms and on-demand services.

Nandy has highlighted that existing legislation addresses the diversity of traditional television broadcasting but does not specifically cover the potential impact of corporate transactions on the range of content available through on-demand services. If the government pursues this approach, it could seek legislative changes to extend these considerations to streaming platforms.

A strategic deal to compete with global streaming platforms

Announced in July 2026, the transaction involves Sky, owned by Comcast, acquiring ITV’s Media & Entertainment business. The deal includes ITV’s free-to-air television channels and its ITVX streaming platform, but excludes ITV Studios, the group’s production and international distribution business.

The combined operation would create one of the UK’s leading commercial media groups, bringing together linear television, on-demand content and news. ITV’s portfolio includes established properties such as Coronation Street, Emmerdale and Love Island.

Sky argues that the acquisition would provide the scale needed to compete more effectively with global streaming platforms, strengthen British content production and increase the value of its offering to audiences. The company has also said it would preserve ITV’s identity, its free-to-air services and its public service broadcasting obligations, while maintaining the editorial independence of Sky News and ITV News.

ITV, meanwhile, has said it will cooperate fully with the government and described the process as another step in the regulatory review of the transaction. The company believes the combination could benefit viewers, advertisers and the wider UK creative industry.

Bajaria is leaving the company after nearly a decade.

Netflix has announced the appointment of Peter Rice as its new Chief Content Officer, effective October 26. He succeeds Bela Bajaria, who is leaving the streaming company after nearly ten years.

In his new role, Rice will lead Netflix’s global content organization, overseeing scripted and unscripted series, films, live events and other programming across all regions.

Rice brings extensive experience in the entertainment industry, having held senior leadership positions at Disney and Fox across television, film and content operations.

“I want to thank Bela for a decade of dedication, innovation, creativity and leadership,” said Ted Sarandos, co-CEO of Netflix.

“She led enormous changes at Netflix. She helped broaden our content offering to include the large-scale expansion of unscripted programming and the launches of live events and sports, in addition to crafting and running a world-class, global slate of films and series. I’m incredibly grateful for everything she’s done to help Netflix entertain the world.”

Sarandos also highlighted Rice’s experience managing large-scale entertainment operations and his longstanding relationships with creative talent.

“Peter is one of the most effective at-scale operators in the entertainment industry. His business acumen is sharp, his talent relationships are exceptionally strong, and his experience across TV and film is deep and broad,” he said.

“He understands what makes stories resonate, and he’s spent his career helping talent do the best work of their lives. I’m excited to welcome him to Netflix as Chief Content Officer as we continue to scale and deliver members more of the stories they love.”

Rice welcomed the appointment and acknowledged Netflix’s impact on the global entertainment business.

“Netflix has fundamentally changed the way stories are made, shared and experienced around the world,” he said.

“They’ve shown again and again that they’re willing to take chances on distinctive voices and fresh ideas, and I’m excited to work with the team to help bring even more great stories to members everywhere. I’m grateful to Bela for building such a remarkable global team, and I look forward to building on everything she and the team have created.”

Extensive Experience Across Disney and Fox

In those positions, he oversaw a broad portfolio of businesses and brands, including ABC, Fox Broadcasting, Fox Sports, ABC News, ABC Studios, Disney Channel, Freeform, FX Networks, Hulu, National Geographic, Onyx Collective and Twentieth Century Fox Television.

His responsibilities included more than 300 programs and approximately 4,000 hours of television annually.

Titles produced or broadcast under his leadership included The Simpsons, American Idol, Modern Family, This Is Us, The Bear, Abbott Elementary, Shōgun and Only Murders in the Building.

Globo announced that all its telenovelas in 2027 will feature accompanying vertical microdramas, as part of a strategy to extend its stories beyond traditional television and strengthen its presence across emerging audiovisual consumption formats.

The initiative was unveiled during Globo’s 2027 Upfront, held on Wednesday, October 14, in São Paulo, where the Brazilian media group presented its main programming, production, and commercial initiatives for the coming year.

The announcement marks a new phase in Globo’s strategy to develop content specifically designed for mobile devices, an area the company began exploring in 2025 through both original productions and adaptations of titles from its extensive catalog.

Among its first projects was Tudo Por Uma Segunda Chance, which premiered in November 2025. Created and produced by Estúdios Globo, the series consists of 50 episodes running between two and three minutes each, specifically conceived for vertical viewing and distributed through TV Globo’s social media channels.

The company also began exploring new ways to leverage its intellectual property through re-edited versions of traditional telenovelas adapted into short-form episodes.

In February 2026, Globoplay premiered Odete e Maria de Fátima de Vale Tudo, a vertical adaptation centered on the two villains of the 2025 remake of Vale Tudo. The production repackaged scenes and storylines from the telenovela into a format designed for short-form viewing.

This strategy will continue in October with new adaptations of classic titles. Flora e Donatela de A Favorita and Alexandre de A Viagem, two productions consisting of 50 episodes each, will arrive on Globoplay on October 20 and 27, respectively.

In both cases, the first seven episodes will be available free of charge, while the remaining episodes will require a subscription.

The decision to extend vertical microdramas to all its 2027 telenovelas therefore represents a significant step beyond these initial experiments, integrating short-form content into the company’s broader scripted production strategy.

New Telenovelas and a 10:00 PM Drama Slot

In addition to its vertical microdrama strategy, Globo confirmed a major expansion of its scripted lineup for 2027, including the introduction of a new 10:00 PM telenovela slot.

One of the main productions scheduled for this slot is Romance em SP, starring Marina Ruy Barbosa. Written by Thelma Guedes and artistically directed by Natália Grimberg, the story follows Clarice, a young woman from the outskirts of São Paulo whose life becomes intertwined with that of an heir to a powerful family connected to the fashion industry.

Another major announcement was Avenida Brasil 2, the sequel to the internationally successful 2012 telenovela, which is scheduled to premiere in January 2027.

The new production will bring back much of the original cast, including Adriana Esteves, Débora Falabella, Murilo Benício, Cauã Reymond, and Eliane Giardini. Thomas Aquino and Jessica Ellen will also join the cast, while Mel Maia will return to the franchise in a new role.

The company also presented Tempos de Glória, starring Maisa and scheduled for June 2027 in the 6:00 PM slot. Set in the 1940s, the production follows a young woman who dreams of becoming a football player at a time when women faced significant restrictions in the sport.

The telenovela will be written by Carla Faour and Julia Spadaccini, with artistic direction by Patrícia Pedrosa. Its premiere will coincide with the year Brazil hosts the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

For its 7:00 PM slot, Globo announced Elas Que Lutem!, a romantic adventure comedy starring Heslaine Vieira, Dani Calabresa, and Vitória Strada. The story follows three women who, after falling victim to a financial scam, embark on a journey to recover their money that turns into a survival adventure in the Amazon. The series is scheduled to premiere in March.

New footage was also presented from Lá na Minha Terra, starring Dira Paes and Daniel de Oliveira. The telenovela is scheduled to premiere in November 2026 and will continue airing during the first half of 2027.

On the streaming side, Globoplay announced Paraíso Perdido, a new telenovela inspired by the works of playwright Nelson Rodrigues, created and written by George Moura and Sergio Goldenberg, with artistic direction by Joana Jabace.

Globoplay and Reality Shows Expand Their Offerings

Globo’s 2027 entertainment lineup will also feature new original productions and additional seasons of established formats.

Among the main announcements is Academia dos Nepo Babies, a Globoplay original reality show hosted by Ticiane Pinheiro and produced by Estúdios Globo, in which the children of Brazilian celebrities will put their skills to the test across different professions.

Globo also unveiled Casei com a Família, a reality show focused on romantic relationships and the family challenges that arise around marriage.

Meanwhile, Big Brother Brasil 27 will introduce changes to some of its established dynamics, including post-eviction interviews, which will now air on TV Globo. The production will also incorporate new audience engagement initiatives.

The company also confirmed another season of Chef de Alto Nível for 2027, while Em Família com Eliana will introduce Chefinho de Alto Nível, a cooking competition featuring children.

In entertainment, Globo announced that Márcio Garcia will host a new game show developed by Estúdios Globo in partnership with Endemol Shine Brasil, featuring challenges created in collaboration with brands.

The 2027 Women’s World Cup: A Major Sports Priority

Sports will play a prominent role in Globo’s programming next year, particularly with Brazil hosting the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027.

Globo announced extensive coverage of the tournament across its channels and platforms, accompanied by special productions designed to expand the viewing experience.

These include Abrindo o Jogo, a new GNT program hosted by Sabrina Sato, which will offer audiences a closer look at Brazilian football players beyond their sporting careers.

Multishow will also develop special content featuring Blogueirinha, focusing on behind-the-scenes stories surrounding the tournament.

Globo’s programming will also maintain a strong presence in live music and festivals, including Lollapalooza and Circuito Sertanejo, alongside productions such as Globo Sessions, Partiu São João, and musical initiatives connected to its telenovelas.

New Commercial and Advertising Opportunities

The content strategy unveiled during the Upfront was accompanied by new commercial solutions for advertisers and agencies, focusing on the integration of broadcast television, streaming, and digital platforms.

Among Globoplay’s new offerings is Welcome Ads, an advertising format that displays advertisements on the platform’s entry screen, before users select their profile or choose what to watch.

This tool joins other digital advertising formats, including Pause Ads, Binge Ads, and dynamic ad insertion in simultaneous streams of linear channels.

According to Globo Ads, the 2027 Upfront features more than 70 products and commercial solutions spanning scripted content, entertainment, sports, news, and digital programming.

Through these announcements, Globo aims to expand the distribution and monetization opportunities for its content, combining its traditional large-scale productions with new storytelling formats and commercial models.

The decision to incorporate vertical microdramas into all its telenovelas represents one of the most significant elements of this strategy, systematically integrating short-form storytelling into one of the historical pillars of the company’s programming and audiovisual business.

The company will eliminate around 1,000 jobs globally in its largest round of layoffs since 2022. In a memo to employees, co-CEOs Greg Peters and Ted Sarandos confirmed the move.

Netflix has confirmed a new round of layoffs that will affect approximately 6% of its global workforce, equivalent to around 1,000 jobs, according to the Associated Press, which cited a memo sent to employees on Wednesday by the company’s co-CEOs, Greg Peters and Ted Sarandos.

The confirmation comes days after reports emerged that a new restructuring could affect 5% of the streaming giant’s workforce. The announcement clarifies the scale of the cuts, which represent the company’s largest workforce reduction in several years.

According to the internal memo, the product, technology, legal and human resources teams will be the most affected. The executives explained that the decision is part of a series of organizational changes aimed at prioritizing the company’s resources and supporting its growth plans.

“Decisions like this are never easy and we don’t take them lightly,” Peters and Sarandos said in the memo, adding that their immediate priority would be to support affected employees throughout the transition. The process will vary by country, and team leaders will communicate directly with the employees involved.

The executives maintained that Netflix’s business remains strong and that the company is on track to meet its financial forecasts for the year. However, they emphasized the need to make selective decisions about staffing and resource allocation to continue investing in high-impact areas, improve the service, and drive growth and innovation.

Restructuring Amid Growing Competition

The layoffs come amid intensifying competition among streaming platforms and mounting pressure to sustain growth in an increasingly consolidated market. Netflix maintains a leading position in the industry but faces competition from services such as Amazon Prime Video and Disney+, as the sector continues to undergo consolidation.

Financially, the company reported revenue of US$12.56 billion and earnings of US$3.4 billion in the second quarter of 2026, representing year-over-year increases of 13% and 9%, respectively. However, its third-quarter projections fell short of Wall Street expectations.

Netflix had approximately 16,000 full-time employees worldwide at the end of 2025, according to its regulatory filings. The announced reduction therefore represents a significant adjustment to its global workforce.

The company is scheduled to report its next quarterly results next week, as investors continue to monitor its financial performance and the strategic decisions it is making to sustain growth.
