ttvnews confirmed the British company will not be attending the event’s in-person edition in October due to there being “too much uncertainty” to be able to commit to going. The company joins the other two super indies BBC Studios and Banijay.
While Mipcom 2021 in-person edition is still in the works and RX France stating they’ve already confirmed 160 attending companies, the recent wave of Covid-19 contagions and variants across Europe has made things more complicated.
Thus, while the hopes of meeting face to face are still alive, several companies have started to make decisions about their trips. The latest is ITV Studios, which joins BBC Studios and Banijay in the list of companies who’ve declined to attend.
An ITV Studios spokesperson said to ttvnews: “Our long-term partnership with Reed Midem is important to us, but the current situation with international Covid restrictions means there is too much uncertainty to be able to commit to building our popular ITV Studios House at Mipcom 2021 and we will not be exhibiting at this year’s event.”
As an alternative, the company’s executives will visit the different territories to meet with their clients, which will be complemented with virtual showcases.
“We are excited about the opportunity for our teams to spend time locally with our customers, and our strong content slate means that we have many new shows that we will be presenting as part of our extended ITV Studios Fall Festival this coming Autumn. More details will follow shortly but we are looking forward to building on last year’s hugely successful ITV Studios Fall Festival by meeting clients both virtually and face to face in territory, where possible.”
